I don't see anything about Eve giving birth to a daughter? Gen 4:17 says that Cain lay with his wife, were did she come from? Were did the rest of the population come from?

I think all of mankind came from Adam and Eve. Therefore, I think Adam and Eve had children other than those specifically mentioned in the Bible.

If we make these pure guesses, and that is what they are, Eve got pregnant with Seth shortly after Able was slain. She was about 130 years old, assuming she was about the same age as Adam. Therefore she could have been the mother to more than 100 kids. And many of her kids could have had kids through 4 or 5 generations by the time Eve was 130 years old. Therefore a human population of several hundred might have existed during the lifetime of Cain and Able. It is unnecessary to assume God created additional people directly, and I think unlikely because I think we all are decendents of Adam, born with a corrupt flesh due to Adam's sin.

If the "sons of God" were decendents of Seth, and departed the Godly culture to intermarry with the "daughters of men" then that is consistent with my position.

If the "sons of God" were Angels who had the power at the time to take physical form and mate with human girls, then all of these "Angels" were taken and bound and their offspring were killed in the flood such that only decendents of Seth (and hence Adam) survived.

But I fear I have missed something. Where have I gone off the track?

I never thought of it like that before.

In luke 3 Adam is referred to as 'son of God' which is quite fitting as he was formed directly by God. In the Genesis 2 account we read Eve was taken from the Man and given the title 'Woman' meaning from the man so it seems quite fitting / poetic to give females the title 'daughters of Men'. Hence the titles given in Genesis Six.

Any thoughts?

As far as Genesis 6 is concerned, I think the usage points more toward angels than men, but as I said, both views reflect reasonable interpretation.

If you take the view that they were Angels, it could be said that Angels are NOT sexless?

What can be said is that if they were Angels, rather than men, then at least a subset of Angels WERE (but perhaps no longer) capable of assuming physical form including the capability of "going into" the daughters of men. I think Angels can assume physical form, if in God's purpose, but no longer independently.

I think after the fall of the Angels, the relationships (with God or without God)were sealed, just as I do not think those that are "in Christ" and are either asleep or when in glorified bodies are or will be capable of sin. I think that is eternal life in His Rest!

I want to stress that all this is guess work and I would be hard put to back it up with scripture, it is more an argument from silence.

Hi folks! Again, I find myself barging in. Nice to meet you!

I like the topic...and the thoughts you are all sharing.

Van...I think you are right on target thinking that the "sons of God" mentioned in Genesis 6...were in fact angels.

There is additional biblical information that supports this fact. A close look at 2 Peter 2:4...shows angels as having sinned...in the same breath as as the sinful world during Noah's time and bother were punished.

Angels, evidently, the unfaithful ones, were placed in a condition that no longer allowed such abuse of materialization, a condition referred to as "darkness"...there to await their judgement.

It is my personal opinion, that these same angels, like to behave as ghosts...especially...in darkness. Another subject, for another time.

Just wanted you to know that you are on the right track...as far as I am concerned.

Later gator!

Yes, I think both 2 Peter and Jude 6 point toward Gen 6:1-4 being concerning with Angels. So I think this is the most likely solution to the question, but the position is not supported with strong evidence and other views cannot be disregarded.

Well Hellowwww! Just some thoughts. People lived much much longer back when the gene pool was purer, very unlike today. Also try not to think of Cain going out and getting married the next day, it could have been many many years, maybe a hundred or more. Further, the scriptures state that the first couple bore many other children. Considering such early population growth as then existed, the generation being around twenty years, then the exponential growth of humanity could, probably would have been tremendous. Consider how the U.S. has grown in such a short time. And with a purer gene pool, marriage of brothers, sisters, cousins
half-siblings was not prohibited, in fact, necessary. Even Abraham married his half-sister. So the problem of Cain's wife really is not one, okay?

I'm one who ascribes to the purity-of-the-gene-pool theory. The legal prohibition of one marrying one's sibling wasn't given until the ministry of Moses (Leviticus 18).

Regarding the "sons of God" and "daughters of men" issue, I find myself in agreement with Van's initial thought. Hebrews 1:5, "For to which of the angels did God ever say, "You are my Son; today I have become your Father." Just a thought.

Genesis 4:17

Where did Cain get his wife?

Cain married his sister. Adam lived 930 years and had many sons and daughters (Gen. 5:3-5). When the earth first began, the sons and daughters of Adam and Eve had to marry each other to populate the world.

The Lord told us to look for the Blessed Hope. He encouraged us to be joyful as we await the
Bridegroom who may call us up at any time. Scripture after scripture after scripture instructs us to look to Israel as God's timepiece. Jesus listed the signs of the times for us and we are to recognize them, NOT deny them. We are to know the difference between the church and national Israel and celebrate Israel's future deliverence. Pretribbers strive to obey all of these wonderful things.
