Sometimes I am talking with someone and they mention Satanists and wild ideas about a sinister movement. They are full of fear. I ask them if they have read the Satanic Bible and the response has ALWAYS been "no". When I tell them I've read it they freak out and look at me like I'm possessed.

In my opinion this comes from a lack of knowledge, for giving credit where credit is not due. I tell them they should read it for themselves but I guarantee none of them have. I guess because if they do the devil will take hold of their life or something like that.

I was confirmed in the Lutheran church and writings of Martin Luther were very much encouraged to digest. One thing Martin Luther said is that we should study the opposite of what we believe, then in the end what we are left with is truth. Made sense to me. So I ordered a Satanic Bible to study what I thought was the opposite of what I believed.

First of all, I had always assumed the Satanic Bible was a dusty leather bound book that was thousands of years old and had secrets in it. Nope. It was written in 1969 by Anton Lavey.

Here's wikipedia info on the Satanic Bible and Lavey:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satanic_Bible

What I recall is that Lavey was an organist for a traveling circus/carnival. They would also hold services on Sunday in the town they visited, where he also played organ. He became disgusted by seeing men show up with their wives on Sunday morning, when the Saturday night before he had seen the same men in the exotic female dancer area of the circus. So in disgust of the two-faced actions he saw in Christianity, he set out to write the anti-thesis of Christian beliefs, hence the Satanic Bible.

Frankly, the book is silly. Most of the Satanic Bible is Lavey's story, and then the actual "bible" part of it is several "satanic" keys. I think I remember that when the last key is said, the gates of hell are supposed to open up. Might be wrong on that.

Anyway, the Satanic Bible is a book one man wrote, and quite recently. The actual bible portion is extremely small - if you read the English "translation" of the actual keys I think it's under 30 pages. It holds no power. You don't need "the power of Christ" to fight it or anything like that. Academically the book is...well....it's very pseudo-academic. The keys are in a phonetic language that's made up if I remember correctly.

My point in this thread is to let people know that education and information are important. If people knew what it was, they would realize it's not an army of darkness kind of thing. It's just a stupid book, and it really has nothing original to say in it.

If it DID say great things, or had a firm academic base, I would be the first to say so.

What is really ridiculous is when people talk of Satan in Gethsemane, or tempting Jesus, and then mention the Satanic Bible. These things are not even comparable. The SB has the weight of a Spiderman comic book.

Don't be afraid to learn and read about things.

Wouldn't the "real" satanic Bible be the same as the Christian Bible?
Considering Satan is a Christian concept, the Bible sure must have some merit....

Yes. The term "Satanic Bible" to me brings up images of an age old book that was written thousands of years ago, etc. The term "Satanic Bible" is very misleading for what LaVey wrote. It should more aptly be called "Really Scary Stuff In a Foreign Language I Wrote" or something like that.

I have known some "witches and warlocks", people who actually claimed to be witches, or "white witches". Most of them were granola pot smoking naturalist types. My apologies to any witches reading this, just my experience. The same people that are into mood lights, glow in the dark posters, beads, dungeons and dragons, etc.

Silly stuff.

I had this friend who started playing Dungeons and Dragons. He then got really into his character: at odd times. He then claimed to have real magic powers, and would twiddle his fingers at traffic lights to change them, and rub my do's nose chanting 'Sleep', repeatedly.
Lord have mercy, he even went from Southern Baptist to Wikan Warlock within six months. He got really into it, and drove his wife up the walls, until she died six months later. He then remarried a 'witch', and renamed himself for Wikan purposes a sorcerous name, and renamed her a sorcerous name also. I misread it and called her klizzilla ( the beginning syllable, I changed to protect her identity, but I had to share the 'zilla' forit's humour) as a result. Now she had a weight problem, and took it really hard, but he and I had a few laughs over it.
Well, some time has passed, and someone and I were talking on a drive. I tell him this story, and we laugh our butts off. We hit this red light, and wave our fingers shouting 'abrakazzam', and the light didn't change, but flashing lights from behind pull us over.
We, embarrased, told the officer (we accidentally called Ocifer since we were discussing other silly things, and that was one of them) that we were making fun of someone, and he rolled his eyes and told us to focus on the road and not laughing, for the safety of others. Lucky us that time.

Peace be with you all

Thanks Admin. Smile

The funny thing about Satanists, despite the silliness you see they DO have power. And it all given to them by Christians who label them dark or evil or people to be avoided.

I suspect if a Christian, upon learning somone was a satanist, smiled and said, "that's interesting, more tea?" it would be pointless. Like the teenager coming home with a red mohawk and having the parents barely notice it.

unschoolmom, YOU GET IT! Yes! That is exactly my point.

More importantly, I am not saying this from a Christian perspective of "I have the power of Jesus and Satan is powerless". No. The power "satan" is given is the power people give Satan in your minds. Satan is very much a human creation, a psychological being to fight.

So when I hear people say they are fighting Satan but Satan's grip is too powerful, etc - I take this very much as a statement that they are fighting within themselves - and THAT scares me. It is a sure sign of some scary psychological things going on.

There's an old saying that a tug of war cannot exist when one side lets go of the rope.

So some might say "See, Satan has a hold of you because you say he does not exist - that is Satan's greatest trick on mankind" - and then they REALLY freak out.

What is Satan to me? I have seen people hooked on speed - they get crazy and become different people - when I look in their eyes I see what people call Satan. They are indeed fighting demons, demons they have created.

Now the basis for these thoughts is not biblical, it is rational. Nonetheless, the "satanic bible" is powerless. If someone actually read it and felt they were overcome with demons, well....they would have done something like that anyway through a different venue. I think a more expedient approach would be to get this person some real psychological help, seriously, so they can weed through the mess.

I agree.

However, if my kid came home with a red mohawk he, or she, would be sporting a shiney bald head the next day.

I love the way my Mom raised me. Let me tell you why. She gave me the money to buy the Satanic Bible. There was a standing rule in my house that my parents would always buy any book I wanted to read, no matter the content.

By reading that, it empowered me. Even at 15 I was able to see what it was.

And I went through a very crazy new wave phase in high school and college. It was just clothes, just having fun, Mom let it slide. Ended up being no big deal.

I see the way Satanists are portrayed in movies and I chuckle.

I read his book the Satanic Bible about the Black mass and the candles and the sacraficing of a baby, etc.. I was 17 or 18 at the time (about 20 years ago). At the time I read it I also was just starting to be fascinated in the things of God. My real perception of Satan has more emerged in the last year. I understand much more of the motives of Satan. Satan is one that knows he is doomed and cares not about being right but cares for the opposition to anything that is good but knows that his authority is only by God. Satan is not a fairytale to me. Satan is very real and so are the demons that work his craft. One thing the book does seem to promote and that is to be in opposition to anything of God and in that case the book carrys a great deal of significance to the person of Satan and the more importantly to the spirit of Satan while at the same time the book is steeped in insignificant ritual.

I'm curious. How can you be sure that you aren't just mistakenly worshipping Satan, or that he's modified the bible to fit his own purposes?

Its true that the Satanic Bible was written by human beings and is no more true than all other books dreamed and written by men and women.

The Bibles we have today are simply all that remains after Satan published a sequal to the original that God made; however, God works in mysterious ways so instead of fixing this he simply riddled Satan's version of the Bible with errors and contradictions so rational people would know it to be false instantly. King James, after becoming king through a pact with Satan tried to edit this unholy work and make it less crazy, sadly for Satan, he failed. It is still crazy, but much like reality TV shows.
Bad writing doesn't seem to repel viewers.

This post is true because I wrote it and you read it; think about it Rolling Eyes

Great question actually FFT because there are many that claim to be Christians that are really workers of iniquity. Additionally, there are part of the Bible that have been altered.

God is Love. His law is based on Love therefore anyone that is Doing His commandments are worshipping God.

As for the modifications of the Bible, I am one that doesn't really pursue my instruction based on the "Bible" but more on scripture. Therefore, I actually believe in writings such as the Epistle of Barnabas and I Clement and II Clement in my beliefs. I have learned via the Holy Spirit which is like a compass. If I'm reading something that points me off the mark of the compass then I know its not leading me in the right direction. The Holy Spirit is the Mark by which I can understand and discern the things of God. Therefore, anything that contradicts that is the "opposition" and therefore the product of Satan's craft.

I can assure you that whatever Clement wrote is not Holy Spirit inspired. This is why it is not in the Bible. I believe just recently, by finding some of the dead sea scrools, the so-called epistle of Clement to the Church at Corinth, was refuted. Paul was the author. In fact, what Paull wrote takes over half the New Testament.

Which Bible? Protest Bible, Catholic Bible? Which Bible are you referring to? I would be surprised if the Dead Sea scrolls refuted Clement's writings as I thought the Dead Sea scrolls predated Clement's birth as well as Paul's.
