st jn 17:

12While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.

Amen, and none of them is lost, save the son of perdtion..

Jesus here as praying to His Father, makes a very important statement as he glorys, about his accomplishment . That he had thus far, been faithful to his divine mission of keeping those men safe and secure from evil, the men given to his charge, and that none have he lost except the son of perdition, thats the scripture might be fulfilled.

It was no suprise, that judas would be lost, because his very apostacy was predicted by the scripture, and fulfilled, by the scripture.

I believe a reference to this truth is found in ps 109: 8Let his days be few; and let another take his office.

So Judas was given to him, not for salvation, but to fulfill a evil purpose in the purpose and plan of God..

prov 16:

4The LORD hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.

note: judas was given to christ, not that he choose to be with him, freewill had nothing to do with this, but he was given by the Sovereign decree of God..

In Fact, Jesus christ has been given power over all men, not to save all men, but in order to give eternal life to as many as God the Father have given him ..

Jn 17:

2As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.

Hence, though all are given for a purpose, not all are given to give eternal life to..

Jesus knew from the beginning, whom it was that did not believe in him:

jn 6:

64But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him

Judas at this point, probably did not know he would betray christ, but jesus knew, because it was according to the fulfillment of scripture..

Only those that are chosen to salvation are given to believe in christ, because he is their salvation..

phil 1:

29For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;

Notice that the Jesus calls judas the son of perdition ! This designation is used once more by paul in 2 thess 2:

3Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

The son of perdition is not a person so to speak, but a concept that denotes a counterfeiting, as counterfieting believers, a false profession, a semblance of that which is true, but will be exposed as judas was as a apostate or false , one who departs from the faith for filthy gain..

notice 1tim 4:

1Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

These seducing spirits arise from the abyss..rev 9:

1And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.

2And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit.

3And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power.

4And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.

5And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man.

6And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.

7And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men.

8And they had hair as the hair of women[attractive false doctrines], and their teeth were as the teeth of lions.

9And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle.

10And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months.

11And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit[satan], whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.

This is describing the doctrines of hell seducing the non elect, those whose names are not written in the lambs book of life..

notice vs 2:

2And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit.

ephesians says it like this :

2Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

And yes, even the election of grace, before the saving benefit of christ newbirth was applied to us, we too did give in to seducing false doctrines of this power from hell..

Thats why, it is written hurt not none but those who have not the seal of God on their foreheads..that is the newbirth of the spirit of God, which seals us with the gospel of truth..

eph 1:

12That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.

13In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

So the son of perdition will be all those in professing christiandom, who have been seduced by the prince of the power of the air, this worlds prince of darkness..

jn 12:

31Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.

jn 14:

30Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.

jn 16:

11Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

what does prince mean ?

a ruler, commander, chief, leader

He is the ruler and commander of those false doctrines that come out of the abyss and seduce his followers, those he has command over, they live and breath his anti christ , anti gospel, anti truth idealogies, its in their air..

All of this worlds religons are under the control of the prince of the power of the air, and hence worship him in Gods temple by means of these false doctrines..

2nd thess 2:

4Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

This is the son of perdition, satan and his faithful religous followers..

Now, back to this Ideal of perdition. Are the sons of perdition born that way ? Yes..

remember Judas ? As a son of perdition, he had no choice in this matter, he was born to participate in this calling for his life.

notice Jesus words..

mark 14:

21The Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had never been born.

And so it is with all the reprobated religous world..the only way to have avoided this tragedy, was to have never been born, but the freewill could not determine if you were born or not, it was up to Gods sovereignty. .

This word born [Gennao] is the same word used in 2pet 2:

12But these, as natural brute beasts, made[born] to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;

13And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness,[false teachings] as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you;

Amen, this confirms and gives credence to the truth of having been born to be taken and destroyed..perdition. .

Jesus calls those of perdition this:

matt 23:

15Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.

remember Jesus is speaking to the seed of the serpent, a wicked seed of the devils offspring spiritually. .

matt 23:

33Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell? [perdition]

I recall these words of peter about judas..

acts 1:

25That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.

his own place, hell, he was of the family of hell, jesus even called him a devil jn 6:

70Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?

Peter no doubt had this in mind in acts 1 25 and also in 2 pet 2 12

remember peter taught only that which christ had taught him, and the Holy Ghost ensured he would remember those things to write them and instruct the church later jn 14:

26But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you

Did not jesus teach them Judas was a child of the devil in his prayer earlier in the text ? jn 17..no doubt he expanded on that in private and of course when the Holy ghost continue to teach and expand on the truth he taught them..

Scripture uses this word perdition several times, denoting the reprobated vessels of wrath :

phil 1:

28And in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God.

1 tim 6:

9But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.[ how many ministries in our day focus on getting rich ? and financial prosperity]

heb 10:

But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

2nd pet 3:

But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.[ religous men]

rev 17:

The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.

rev 17:

And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.

In all these context, perdition refers to those predestined to this end, for it was preapred for them, the devil and his angels, his ministers, his servants, his followers, his children, his seed..

matt 25:

41Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

If Jesus christ doesnt deliver one from the false religous system of today, then you are a son of perdition, may God have mercy on his election of grace..For christ sake..

You quoted Acts 1:25 that says, "Judas, by transgression, fell, that he might go to his own place."

Then you added an interpretation of what "his own place" meant, saying: "his own place, hell, he was of the family of hell. Jesus even called him a devil in John 6:70 - Jesus answered them, "Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?"

Unfortunately, you failed to take into account the other disciple who was not only "of the family of hell" but was also the head of the family: that is, Satan himself.

In Matthew 16:23, we are told that Jesus turned and rebuked Peter, saying, "Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, because you are not mindful of the things of God, but only of the things of men."

So, if we take your analogy literal, then Judas might have been a devil, but Peter was Satan himself!

I think we need to be careful who we accuse and how we accuse them, because if we're not careful, we'll find ourselves doing the very work of the enemy. After all, the word satan means, "the accuser." Let us be very careful, then, that we don't do Satan's work for him.
