At the very least George Carlin was a controversial person in the comedy world. His use of taboo words followed a well trod path following both Lenny Bruce and Mort Sahl .

Probably the most irreverent work of his was in the movie "Dogma." I found this movie hilarious and hardly blasphemous, needless to say many others were offended tremendously by it. Those same people found Monty Python's "Life of Brian" blasphemous also.

Even though George grew up a Catholic, later in life he became an atheist.

For me at least he was funny and I did follow his career and am sad to know that he is gone now. NO I dont think he went to heaven, he wouldn't want to anyway so he got what he wanted in the end.

I am reminded of a phrase from CS Lewis who said that "hell is locked from the inside".

Oh hardly: youtube link

It's got some language so if that's not your thing don't watch it.

It's a shame, really. His comedy is going to outlive him by a good amount, though.

Carlin's gone?

Man, I need to get out of work sometime and read a newspaper...

His comedic genius will be missed...

Yep! He was a comedic genius who treated nothing as exempt from his humor.
