For me, the fact that so many (all?) religions try to keep their worshipers ignorant has always sent up a red warning flag that they are actually evil and trying to control people, and that if there is a God, then the politicians who call themselves priests have absolutely nothing to do with Him.

For example, why does the Bible describe the 'tree of knowledge' as being dangerous, and why does God make sure to tell man to stay away from it? Surely if God is benevolent and is looking out in our best interests, He would not want to keep us ignorant.

And why does the Bible tell us that we need preachers (i.e. a church) to interpret it for us? Why aren't we allowed to read the Bible by ourselves? Could it be that the priest class from way back went made sure to enshroud their authority in scripture? Could it be that they made sure to guarantee their future legitimacy and power?

When the first person (sorry, forgot his name) translated the Bible into English in order to make it more accessible to the masses so that they themselves could read the words of Jesus, the Church burned him at the stake (an extremely painful way to die) for his heresy. Christians burning Christians for trying to bring the word of Jesus to more Christians...

Clearly something more than heavenly benevolence is going on here. It reeks of Earthly, human corruption to me.

Atoz: That is exactly right, P123.

P1234567890 wrote:

Atoz: It is
using the phrase 'the tree of knowledge of good and evil' in metaphor or in spirit
for what is dangerous:
'the tree of the Knowledge of good Love for good mixed with evil Hate for evil,'
and
using the phrase 'the tree of life'
in metaphor or in spirit
for what is safe:
'the tree of the knowledge of good Love for both good and evil.'

See Matthew 5:43-48 for more.

P1234567890 wrote:

Atoz: Because He had already designed our brains to work by words and their opposites running on the Word Love Operating System which loves all words and their interdefinable opposites, which meant that the Word Hate OS which hates any ansd all words would be the conflicting program that we had to stay away from.

P1234567890 wrote:

Atoz: Exactly! And so he wd still want us to know what we shd not know or want us to know what we shd be ignorant of! For him to keep us ignorant of what we shd be ignorant of wd be to keep us ignorant!

P1234567890 wrote:

Atoz: It does not ONLY say that: it also says all are to prove all things and each is NoT believe anything unless s/he proves it or has it proved to him or her. 1 Thess 5:21.

P1234567890 wrote:

Atoz: Each person is commanded to and allowed to read for self.

P1234567890 wrote:

Atoz:Yes: in Hate of having no power or authority, they overauthorised and overempowered themselves and overlorded and lorded it over others with their credentials!

P1234567890 wrote:

Atoz: Yes, over-ensured their future illegitimacy in the power that corrupts.

Atoz: Exactly: the height of the exact opposite of what JC presribed in Love of opposites.

Atoz: More than the heavenly benevolence of Love for all opposites
was
the hellish evil of the Malevolence for evil
mixed with
the good Love for only good:
exactly what miscompounded danger we were warned about in Genesis.

Good train of thought, P123.

With L and R,
Atoz

A lot of your concerns were part of the Reformation - but yes, it's a slippery slope that doesn't seem to get better.

From my understanding, the Catholic church still holds the reformation as responsible to ripping apart the "true church".

Just to clarify one point (actually, I think atoz touched on it, but I couldn't really tell):
Quote:

For example, why does the Bible describe the 'tree of knowledge' as being dangerous, and why does God make sure to tell man to stay away from it? Surely if God is benevolent and is looking out in our best interests, He would not want to keep us ignorant.

Gen 2:9 And out of the ground the Lord God made to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight or to be desired--good (suitable, pleasant) for food; the tree of life also in the center of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of [the difference between] good and evil and blessing and calamity. [Rev. 2:7; 22:14, 19.]

Gen 2:16-17 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, You may freely eat of every tree of the garden; (17) But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and blessing and calamity you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.

The question is this then: Why would God want to prohibit Adam from eating from this tree? It certainly is not because He wanted him to be ignorant for Adam was created in perfection and ignorance is not a quality of perfection, evidenced by Adam's ability to name the inhabitants of this world:

Gen 2:19-20 And out of the ground the Lord God formed every [wild] beast and living creature of the field and every bird of the air and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them; and whatever Adam called every living creature, that was its name. (20) And Adam gave names to all the livestock and to the birds of the air and to every [wild] beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found a helper meet (suitable, adapted, complementary) for him.

It seems like every religion out there should have a mandatory reformation every 20 years or so!

Just look how politicized Christianity has become in America; you can hardly even recognize the churches anymore... They're basically just political organizations which get together to sing and have picnics now and then.

I agree with you P1234567890. This also happens here. Church is not what it is suppose to be.
