Anybody have any first hand experience or knowledge about kidney stones? I don't need people to research about them because I can do that too, but has anybody ever had one or known anybody who has? _________________ Truth doesn't care about theology, and theology doesn't care about truth. |

Hey Ana-----------
I worked for a guy who had them---one tough old dude with an extremely high tolerance to pain----he passed one one day while we were working (a big one I guess) and I thought he was having a heart attack. It was that bad.
once the hospital figured out what it was they used sonar to break them up and he passed them with mild only discomfort.
His doc told him to start drinking Apple cider vinegar to prevent them and to get a water softener for his house.
He is gone now but I don't remember him having another case of them.
hope this helps
much love-----------knuckle |

Both my father in law and sister in law had them. Very painful while carrying them around and passing them.
Depending upon the stone and the health of the individual they can break them up as knuckle said, sometimes though it is just long, painful, wait for them to pass.
I've not had them myself, thank the stars, but I've been afflicted by shingles off and on over the years. If stones are even half as painful as shingles then my sincerest condolences for anyone who has them or had them. _________________ JP's Mind - my blog

I have them. I was hospitalized for three days and I am still carrying them. Hopefully the pain meds they gave me will work when the time comes. I seriously dread having to go back to that place. Women who have had them compare them unfavourably to child birth, and men have an even harder time. I wouldn't wish them on anybody, and mine haven't even passed yet. I was hoping people who had them could let me know things like how long it took or whether they knew of any method of controlling the pain. Preventative measures would be nice to know too, but I don't even know what kind of kidney stones mine are (though I have my guess based on certain clues). _________________ Truth doesn't care about theology, and theology doesn't care about truth. |

are kidney and gall bladder stones the same?
I think they are caused by calcium build up. One of the best ways to prevent them is to drink lots of water.
My mother in law had gall bladder stones and she had to go through the procedure knuckle said too.
I haven't had them.
I'll talk to her about it and see what she did, or what she was told to do for self-help and how to relieve the pain.
Hugs Ana..hope your ok.

Hi Lone, and thanks...
Gall stones and kidney stones are different, and there are several different kinds of kidney stones (I don't know what kind mine are yet). Drinking lots of water seems to be the best for preventing and helping pass all the kinds, I think. When I was in the hospital, they were hydrating me intravenously as well as encouraging me to drink water. _________________ Truth doesn't care about theology, and theology doesn't care about truth. |
