The Pope came out on the side of reason and sanity in distancing himself from the alarmist, doomday environmental kook fanatics who think that your SUV is going to trigger an environmental apocolypse.

Pope Benedict vs Global Warming

Stressing that unbiased science should determine policy rather than political funded junk "science" that would have rammed us into the defunct "kyoto accord" which Congress wisely voted down 98-0, the 80 year old Pontiff, representing the 1.2 billion member Catholic Church, made it clear that the welfare of animals should not take precidence over that of man.

#angel Go Pope Benedict! You rock!

I credit the Pope's position on common sense rather than some divine inspiration and I agree.

Boss,

Doesn't divine inspiration lead to common sense?

So effectively every scientist qualfied to make statements about the environment is engaging in "political funded junk 'science'"?

What's even more disturbing is how every scientist who dissents from the State religion finds their funds suddenly dry up.

smdt,
Personally, I have found that usually divine inspiration leads us to do things that make no sense, but to do things that builds trust in Gods own power. Israel in the wilderness is a good biblical example.
Understand that I am not saying you are wrong but I am just offering another perspective, scriptually.

James,

Yep. The Pope is taking a stand on faith by opposing what is becoming the world wide religion. Just as evolution is now believed religiously, regardless of evidence, we are seeing the global warming scam taking the same road. Chrisitians instinctively oppose these movements. Maybe it's because we worship a different God than they do.

If that's truly the case then perhaps the Pope, in the Matt5:40 giving your shirt spirit, should volunteer to let the population of Vanuatu have the land under the Vatican, while he and his staff relocate to their land?

http://www.cdnn.info/news/eco/e051206.html

And likewise anti-Kyoto Christians could offer to houseswap with people of Bangladesh? How about that for a chance to show Christianity in action?
God bless
Steven

Steven,

Are you kidding? You get duped by an article titled "Global Warming Claims First Village" which assumes the premise of Global warming to be fact? Just because the Pope showed some charity doesn't mean he conceded to the GW cult.

Do you realize over the past 150 years how many times global warming and global cooling have been predicted along with dire ramifications?

Let me guess, about as many times as the Larsen B Ice Shelf has collapsed? Shocked

Anyway, as I say, you can put your money where your mouth is, as they say, by doing a housewap with someone living on Vanuatu, and we'll see.
Take care, and pack a dinghy.
God bless
Steven

The thing about conspiracy kooks is they can make these outlandish claims that require no proof.

Because I'm concerned about your welfare, I gotta warn you: when Al Gore starts handing out the cups of kool-aid, don't drink it.

If anything, this is an argument which supports the fact that global warming IS happening, and that humans are responsible.

Whenever the Catholic church weighs in on a scientific issue, your best bet (if you want to be right) is to say the opposite. They have a pretty terrible record in this area, and I guess we can now add global warming to the list.

Every single scientific organization on the planet has definitively stated that global warming is happening, that humans are responsible, and that these conclusions are based on sound scientific evidence.

It sounds to me like your opinions have not come from scientific papers or journals. The real and unbiased scientists out there are virtually unanimous about global warming, and they're saying the opposite from you.

In fact, the only *real* debate going on about global warming right now is NOT whether or not it is happening or whether humans are responsible, but just how bad it really is. There is a significant group of expert scientists with good evidence on their side who argue that things are a lot worse than anyone thinks. That's the only debate going on in the scientific community.

Anything else you hear is coming from OUTSIDE the scientific community and should be ignored.

This is about as loaded a statement as I've read in quite a while.

No kidding!

The really funny thing is that there have been many, many times in recorded history where science has clashed with religion, and the result is always the same: The scientists are right and the religious people are wrong.

Galileo v. Catholic church and Darwin v. pretty much all churches are two of the best examples, but there are many, many more.

I'm just glad that we no longer live in a day and age where the scientists are tortured and/or executed anymore.
