Hi! I'm not sure what to tell you that you can't already tell. (I'm Gigi and I'm new here, interested in discussing The Bible.) I am a Christian, and at some point I'll probably share more of my background than that. I consider myself fairly open-minded, but I guess we'll see what others consider me after you get to know me. I know that I have a lot to learn. I'm also shy, but hoping that I can still get myself involved in discussion. It's nice to have a chance to meet all of you! |

Welcome Gigi
I am new as well. I am hoping to have a good interchange of Biblical ideas on a number of themes.
Gigi what are your thoughts on the condition of the dead?
When pronouncing sentence upon Adam, the Lord stated: “Dust you are and to dust you will return.” (Genesis 3:19)
I look forward to hearing from you

Ha..
welcome Arthur,
I was thinking the serpent gets to eat our dust..LOL
Gen 3:14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou [art] cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
Luk 9:5 And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them.
Act 13:51 But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came unto Iconium.
puts a whole new meaning on "eat my dust"
hugs

Dear Jody
This week I have been conversing with others on the question "What, then, is the condition of the dead?"
When pronouncing sentence upon Adam, the Lord stated: “Dust you are and to dust you will return.” (Genesis 3:19)
So Jody what do you think about that? Where was Adam before God formed him from the dust of the ground and gave him life? Why, he simply did not exist! So when he died, Adam returned to that state of complete absence of life, right….back to dust…!
The condition of the dead is made clear at Ecclesiastes 9:5, 10, where we read: “The dead know nothing . . . In the grave, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.” (New International Version) Scripturally, death is a state of nonexistence. The dead have no awareness, no feelings, no thoughts.
So then, since the dead have no conscious existence, hell cannot be a fiery place of torment where the wicked suffer after death can it?
But we might well ask, what, then, is hell? Let’s examine what happened to Jesus after he died and this will help to answer that question. The Bible writer Luke recounts: “Neither was [Jesus] forsaken in Hades [hell, King James Version] nor did his flesh see corruption.” (Acts 2:31) Where was the hell to which even Jesus went? The apostle Paul wrote: “I handed on to you . . . that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and that he was buried, yes, that he has been raised up the third day according to the Scriptures.” (1 Corinthians 15:3, 4)
So did you know that Jesus was in hell, the grave, but he was not abandoned there, for he was raised up, or resurrected. If Jesus was in Hell it could not be a place of torture and torment could it?
Let’s look at another case, that of the righteous man Job, who suffered much. Wishing to escape his plight, he pleaded: “Who will grant me this, that thou mayest protect me in hell [Sheol], and hide me till thy wrath pass?” (Job 14:13, Douay Version) How unreasonable to think that Job desired to go to a fiery-hot place for protection! To Job, “hell” was simply the grave, where his suffering would end. The Bible hell, then, is the common grave of mankind where good people as well as bad ones go.
I have more on that but for now I would like your reflections and comments back if you wish

Welcome Gigi, Arthur, and Jody -
Don't worry about studying "religion" too much. Very often religion has very little to do with God. Stick to your Bible and you will do just fine! |

|

Dear Eleven
I agree that the we need to stick to the Word of God to uncover the Truth. With that in mind what insight do you have the future of our planet. Will the earth be destroyed at Armaggedon or jus the wicked people on the earth?
Many believe that the planet earth as well as the wicked people on it will BOTH be destroyed. They often quote 2 Peter 3:5-7 which says “They deliberately forget that God made the heavens by the word of his command, and he brought the earth out from the water and surrounded it with water. 6 Then he used the water to destroy the ancient world with a mighty flood. 7 And by the same word, the present heavens and earth have been stored up for fire. They are being kept for the day of judgment, when ungodly people will be destroyed”
My research on that is that Peter writes that God brought the Deluge “upon a world of ungodly people,” while preserving Noah and his family; in this way “the world of that time suffered destruction when it was deluged with water.” (2Pe 2:5; 3:6) Would you not agree that the reference here is not to the destruction of the planet or of the celestial bodies of the universe, but it is restricted to the human sphere, in this case the unrighteous human society? It was that “world” that Noah condemned by his faithful course.—Heb 11:7.
The pre-Flood unrighteous world, or human society, ended, but mankind itself did not end did it? Instead they were being preserved in Noah and his family.
Awaiting your comments
