"People that think they know what God hates."

Not one word, but I don't think there's a single word for it.

Hubris certainly works, though it's a bit more general.

FFT ... you sound, or at least talk like you believe in God every time you speak these days!

" "People that think they know what God hates." "

See what I mean?!

Yeah ... sure you do.

What God hates most is competition.

Created creatures who think they can get away without answering to Him and those who make up alternate instructions that ignore God.

I was mostly just making fun of you for the gall it must take to claim that anyone knows what a supposedly all-loving deity hates.

FFT, I would use: self-righteousness, to put a name to what you described.

First off, the loving deity is also the wrathful deity. Read Romans 1:18 and Ephesians 2:3. But, at the same time, He is the loving deity as shown in Romans 5:8 and Ephesians 2:4-5.

Now, what I believe what God hates in one word: sin. Sin is taking God's glory and stomping on it, to put it in understandable terms.

Solomon in Proverbs gives us a list in 6:16-19. "There are six things which the LORD hates, yes, seven which are an abomination to Him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that run rapidly to evil, a false witness who utters lies, and one who spreads strife among brothers." NASB

Fortunately, we do not have to continually live in the face of the wrath of God, if we are believers. At one time we did, but now we don't because that very wrath has been poured out on Christ for us, all to the praise of God's glory.

Now, if you don't believe in the Bible being true in any sense whatsoever, then what do you bank your life and your hope on? I figured I'd bring the Bible into this since it is Bible-discussion.com and this post is in the Bible Doctrine forum.

"confident of one's own righteousness, esp. when smugly moralistic and intolerant of the opinions and behavior of others."

Perfect.

Greetings,

"Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill? He that walketh uprightly and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart. He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbour, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbor. in whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the Lord. He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not. He that putteth not out his money to usury, nor taketh reward against the innocent. He that doeth these things shall never be moved."

In other words, Love the Lord with all your heart and your neighbor as yourself.

In Christ, Judy

Exactly Christine ... idolotry is a great response.

All idolotry, and all other sin, represent competition with God.

In the garden, the his and her pair were tempted by sin to choose an alternate option other than the word and instructions of God to them.

What God hates most of all is sin and all other competition that, when presented as an alternate choice in deviation from our instructions from God, via the Word of God, which is Christ, the earthly manifestation of God on earth.

God hates all competition.

Well put Christine!

Praise God

The one thing that's never forgiven;

blasphemy of the Holy Spirit

The Israelites idolatry was often forgiven starting with the calf in the wilderness.

Very Happy Very Happy
