Everyone always goes on about how Communism is such a failure, and they are right, but it's taken for granted in the West that capitalism is perfect, and it isn't. Here's another example:

Another false statement. Very few in the west would suggest that Capitolism is perfect. They simply acknoweldge that it is better than communism, socialism, tyrany, and facism.

I believe the operative term when discussing this subject should be 'free trade'. Capitalism itself really isn’t perfect… but the alternative sure as hell is demonstrably worse… that is for sure. If a company wants to buy these chemicals, alter them to meet safety standards… why not? If that is capitalism.. fine. But they should be able to try to exploit some of the benefits that could come from it.

If they feel, for whatever reason (and no... I'm not going to argue the science of this) that some of these chemicals have been 'silent spring-ed'... and there may be some useful and appropriate use of them... let'em.

Just because some tree-hugging/frog-licking environmentalist reporter from the LA Times (a classic example of folks abusing their 1st Amendment privilege to articulate to the world that even idiots should be heard) thinks that the entire planet should be 'organic' and that capitalism is the cause of poisoning the environment... perhaps they ought to do a few things... first... demonstrate how capitalism causes this... and second, try covering up the massive and exponentially larger damage state-owned (socialist/communist) lands have endured. At the same time, perhaps they ought to be thankful that the double cheeseburger they are choking down their gullets into their 300 pound carcasses didn’t cost them $9.50 and was only $1… because pesticides and chemicals keep insects from devouring half of the crops each year… thereby making it cheaper for them satisfy their gluttonous desires at the trough of criticism. If they want to complain… they ought to try starving for a few weeks and then speak of the evils capitalism has had on the west. Or.. even better… read THIS where people from some of the richest farm land in all of the world starved on a massive scale. Letting the ‘big picture’ stand in the way of one’s ill conceived opinion has never prevented the LA Times getting an important story out… just like this one.

It makes little sense when evaluated with some sense of proportionality.

If you go around and ask people explicitly if it's perfect, then obviously people will say things like, "Nothing's perfect."

That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the general attitude of our society. It is just generally accepted that capitalism is an outrageously wonderful thing and that privatization is fantastic, when in fact it has serious flaws.

Flawed no doubt but is there any other system of doing things that works as well?

AS long as we are human and we operate under our fallen conditions then we will never have a perfect system. Communism seems to think that humans are perfectable and greed just wont ever come into play when the leaders make their plans. That some great idealistic proletariat will take care of everything, ignoring how decisions are made in the real world.

I wonder... if we take our health care system and make it 'universal'... (i.e., let some bureaucrat manage it) will it remain the envy of the world?

Who told you that your health care system is the envy of the world?

Almost every civilized country on the planet sneers at your health care system because millions of your poor aren't covered by it.

I agree that capitalism is better than all of the alternatives, but it can definitely be improved.... Yet nowhere on Earth do we see any serious efforts to do so.

...And this is yet another failure of capitalism; since politicians are beholden to corporations, there is now a mechanism in place to make sure that things will never improve.

When we get to heaven the only currency will be "faith tried in the fire". Gold will be worthless since they pave the streets with it, jewels (diamonds and rubies) will be so common as to be worthless also. Nearly everything we here on Earth hold as a source of value will no longer have value. So much for capitalism

Since heaven will not be a place of "clouds and harps" but a place of action and interest, a place where an eternity will hardly be enough time to contain all the things we might want to do and see. Things will get done through the action of faith. It behooves us to get going building that stash of faith otherwise we will be rather poor during that eternity.

Heaven is theocratic despotism, it's God's will or it wont get done. No temptation will interfere but put your imagination into it and given God's power it will be done.
