For instance,

how many times must I forgive anyone for the same sin?

The quick answer:

Luk 17:3-4 Pay attention and always be on your guard [looking out for one another]. If your brother sins (misses the mark), solemnly tell him so and reprove him, and if he repents (feels sorry for having sinned), forgive him. (4) And even if he sins against you seven times in a day, and turns to you seven times and says, I repent [I am sorry], you must forgive him (give up resentment and consider the offense as recalled and annulled).

The ultimate answer:

Eph 4:32 And become useful and helpful and kind to one another, tenderhearted (compassionate, understanding, loving-hearted), forgiving one another [readily and freely], as God in Christ forgave you.

Heb 8:12 For I will be merciful and gracious toward their sins and I will remember their deeds of unrighteousness no more. [Jer. 31:31-34.]

Joh 20:23 [Now having received the Holy Spirit, and being led and directed by Him] if you forgive the sins of anyone, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of anyone, they are retained.

Rom 4:7-8 Blessed and happy and to be envied are those whose iniquities are forgiven and whose sins are covered up and completely buried. (8) Blessed and happy and to be envied is the person of whose sin the Lord will take no account nor reckon it against him. [Ps. 32:1, 2.]

Thanx, RevJP for your 2 q. & u. answers.

And do your answers apply to me forgiving myself?

Can I really forgive others for what I would not forgive myself?

So must I first forgive myself as God forgives me and as God tells me to forgive others?

in Love,

It is not possible to forgive others unless you forgive yourself first. How can you give something to someone else that you don't have yourself?

No, not really. Forgiveness is a very difficult concept to appreciate. I believe it is harder to forgive oneself than it is to forgive others.

Hi xi,

I meant that what you said is true and it is so simple.
Not questioning you.

It is harder to forgive oneself precisely because it is so simple and so easy--it is harder only because most people hate fools and so hate easy things since things that are easy to do look foolish and so can't be the way.

So the further truth is that people find it so hard and so can't forgive themselves only because they won't.

from the simple aisle of view,
