| I also noticed that the Old Testament Book of Judith is missing from the forum. Any reason why? |

Black Light,
The book of Judith, is not found in the KJV. on NKJ. It was never put in with the books. I think you will have to go back aways to find it! What bible do you have that has this book in it?

Hi Nobby.
The bible I'm using is the New American Bible, and that's where I found the book of Judith.
KJV = King James Version? I don't know what the NKJ is. |

Hi Black Light,
NKJ is the New King James.
I have ASV, American Standerd Version. But I haven't seen the New American Bible.

I use a New American Bible myself. It's great!
Judith is a part of the Apocrypha, which has been removed from the majority of Protestant Bibles. The 1611 KJV does, in fact, include it, so Nobby is wrong on that point. It was taken out around 1700. Other books included in the Apocrypha are 1 & 2 Macabees, Wisdom, and Tobit, among others.
I feel it to be a grave error for these books to have been removed from the Bible in Protestant circles. |

Hi Capt,
Your right we just talked about that awhile back!
They were discussing the Apocrypha and its books. Yes the
1611 KJV did contain Judith
Thank you Capt. |

Nobby,
If you could list the books of the Apocrypha I'll open up a seperate forum section for those books. |

Hi all,
I found this interesting. Why are these books not Canonical? Ungers Bible Dictionary give the following reasons for their exclusion:
"They abound in historical and geographical inaccuracies and anachronisms. They teach doctrines which are false and foster practices which are at variance with inspired Scripture. They resort to literary types and display an artificiality of subject matter and styling ot of keeping with inspired Scripture. They lack the distinctive elements which give genuine Scripture their divine character, such as prophetic power and poetic and religious feeling."
As Christianity is based on historical evidence for our faith, one cannot use questionable historical material in basing that faith. This would only weeken the Body of Christ. |

I agree, but that does not apply to all of the Apocryphal books. Which is why I only listed the ones I did. |

| I'm going to move this to our new Apocrypha forums at the bottom of the site. Conversation can continue there. |
