Pondering, it doesn't look good if Jorge Arbusto puts more stock in global warming than you do!

That is especially damning considering that Cheney and Rummy were both high up in Ford's administration.

I don't know if I fit any of the standard 'labels'. I don't think I've ever heard of a politician who has views even close to my own. I guess I have some views which are usually considered to be right wing, and others that are considered to be left-wing.

I'm an environmentalist, and think that the most pressing problems facing humanity today are environmental ones.

I believe in the death penalty for some cases where the crime is bad enough and the burden of proof is extreme.

I'm a strong supporter of democracy, but not of the joke that we call democracy.

I have strong views on separating powers and establishing checks and balances. For example, business, government, and religion should all be at arm's length from each other.

I think our education system right up to the university level is terrible and should be drastically reformed.

I also believe that the government should stay out of people's lives as much as possible, but a strong government is necessary to keep corporations honest.

We should also be trying to migrate human civilization towards a state that is as civilized as possible.

I don't know if these were the kinds of answers you were looking for. I guess if I HAD to label myself, I'd call myself an Anarchist. If you want to know more, just ask.

By the way, here is some more bad news about Global Warming: it's happening a lot faster and more dramatically than we thought.

I agree that it's too late to avoid ANY damage. But it's unclear to me whether or not it's too late to avoid the worst of it. I think that if we got our butts in gear and did our best to shift our economy away from burning fossil fuels, then we might just be able to save the ice caps.

P#s seems to have disappeared for a bit, but a few tidbits I've stumbled across and find interesting.

From The Wall Street Journal ( link)

Highlights:

"[An Inconvenient truth] talks about a sea-level rise of 20 feet. In his movie he [Gore] shows scary sequences of 20-feet flooding Florida, San Francisco, New York, Holland, Calcutta, Beijing and Shanghai. But were realistic levels not dramatic enough? The U.N. climate panel expects only a foot of sea-level rise over this century. Moreover, sea levels actually climbed that much over the past 150 years."

"Mr. Gore says that global warming will increase malaria and highlights Nairobi as his key case. According to him, Nairobi was founded right where it was too cold for malaria to occur. However, with global warming advancing, he tells us that malaria is now appearing in the city. Yet this is quite contrary to the World Health Organization's finding. Today Nairobi is considered free of malaria, but in the 1920s and '30s, when temperatures were lower than today, malaria epidemics occurred regularly. "

Antarctica. "He presents pictures from the 2% of Antarctica that is dramatically warming and ignores the 98% that has largely cooled over the past 35 years. The U.N. panel estimates that Antarctica will actually increase its snow mass this century. Similarly, Mr. Gore points to shrinking sea ice in the Northern Hemisphere, but don't mention that sea ice in the Southern Hemisphere is increasing. "

The Opinion writer isn't alone. Recent headlines of articles from several noted climatologists report dissent among the "ranks" and a big brew-ha-ha by The Weather Channel's head to decertify any weatherman that is skeptical of Global warming...hmmm, "Agree or get fired!", that's a convincing argument.

The best part? The defense of global warming has already shifted from "Global warming" to "dramatic climate change"...Dramatic from what? Last week? No kidding Rolling Eyes. It was 70 degrees in January here last week...It snowed last night. Global warming my foot.

Well Pondering, we all know how dramatic a full scale hurricane is and how it is a change from the peaceful weather prior to it, so I guess we will see dramatic changes in the weather...

Have you read about Global dimming yet?

That the effect of Solar radiation changes have on surface temps? I have read some. I roll it all up into "The Earth changes over time" view that I have.

I truly think this global warming hysteria is: a) premature b) a jump to conclusions from disparate data points c) pushed hardest by people than can profit (either money or influence) from it...
