|
I am currently reading Hebrews. I am on Chapter 7. I would like someone (very brave or maybe a little crazy) to study the remainder of Hebrews with.
I am reasonably intelligent but simple-minded. Still, I cannot promise you that I won't ask questions, share my point of view or even debate at times. I've been told I am a bit stubborn now and then.
I have been around the board a while but have not done a bible study (here on this site, I mean...). I don't really know how this works.... maybe someone who does know can enlighten me. How do you choose someone to study with? Or does someone choose you? How do you make it private? How do you sign up for a private study? What if you want 3 or 4 people involved in the study? These are just a few questions I have....
If you know your stuff (scripturally speaking), you know (or are willing to find out) how this forum works and you like a challenge, let me know.
Thanks,
Luv |

Hi Luvnlife,
How are you? I'd love to do this study of Hebrews with you. Just a few weeks ago I had decided to start an indepth study of Hebrews and have only just finished reading Chapter 6. My interest in Hebrews was because of it's many references to the Old Testament and I wanted to be sure that I understood as many of the shadows and fulfillments in it as possible.
It is up to you how we do this study (unless someone can tell us the rules), I'm happy to just follow your lead.
Look forward to getting started.
Kind Regards
Bitterlily |

Hi luvnlife & bitterlily, if you ladies want a bible study find me about 3 or4 more members that really want a study.
I will set it up for you. It will be completly private.
Only the members will even see it.
I will moderate it. I would suggest that one of you be apointed to lead the study.
You get me the names that want to study & I can have it up & going in less than hour.
Let me know Ladies.

I know that Steven has expressed interest in joining a study as well.
BitterLily; What do you think?

BitterLily; I think you would be a natural to lead the study and I would defer to you if you don't mind doing it.
Let me know.
Besides Stephen and Atoz, are there any others that would be interested in joining?
Thanks.

Wow, thanks Luvnlife for the compliment. But I don't feel brave enough to lead the study. I was kinda hoping you would lead it.
Is that okay?
As for Steven3, I think he'd be a great asset to the study.

I certainly could but knowledge-wise, I am still learning so it will definitely be an open-forum as I will be doing a lot of listening, asking questions and offering my understanding of what I read and I hope you all will do the same.
I will insist that whoever joins the discussion stay on topic though as I think we are all here to learn and help each other in our spiritual growth and development.
Thanks,

Sounds good to me. Maybe you could lead us verse by verse or topic by topic through Hebrews and start by sharing your understanding of it and then asking everyone whether they are in agreement with your understanding or whether they have a different perspective of it. Just a thought.
That way too, if we get a bit stuck on certain topics you can direct us to place it in the "too hard basket" so that we can move on to the next topic or verse. And then at the end we can revisit the "too hard basket" to see if our perspectives have been changed or become clearer on any of these topics.
How does that sound? In a sense you will be acting as the referee which isn't dependent on your understanding scripture. |

BitterLily; That sounds good but I have to confess that I am already starting off on questionable footing. You see, my first question has to do with who Melchizedek is and if he really lived or was he a metaphorical representation of Jesus.
Does Melchizedek mean Prince of Peace or King of Righteousness? (There are different interpretations of the name which leads me to ask the next question....) Which came first... the chicken or the egg? In other words, has Melchizedek always had a particular meaning or was this name assigned special designations by religious historians through the ages?
It could prove to be an interesting discussion.
Thanks,

I had a feeling this topic would come up and it will be interesting to see what comes out of it. I have heard many theories which all seem to hold validity. Personally I don't think we have to know who Melchizedek was exactly, but what seems most important is that we understand that he represents the Priesthood of Christ which we have all been called to be part of. That doesn't mean we can't explore all the possibilities of who Melchizedek actually was. I'd be happy to share the theories I'm aware of. I don't see this as questionable footing, because all you will be deciding is when it is time to move on to the next subject. The only real power you will hold is how long we talk about it, and I'm quite content to follow your lead.
If everyone is ready to get started you might wanna send Nobby a post so he can set things up for us.
Cheers

Hey Nobby; I think we are ready to go on this. Can you set it up? I have also extended the invitation to TSS (to join the group) in case he changes his mind.
I'm going to bed now though...
'Night everyone!
