I think that was established the moment we realized that even tho your foundation cannot possibly be what you claim, you will carry it clutched in your grip until your dying breath.
Precisely what you accuse others of, ironically enough.
Deuteronomy 24:1-4 cannot be about sexual sin. |

That's when we hope that people with those types of convictions don't become political leaders. Unfortunately, it happens all too often.
| Quote: | | Who's to say what are right or wrong convictions? I guess what I'm really asking is, doesn't there need to be a higher authority with an absolute standard? Otherwise anything goes. |
That's why these type of things are best reserved for committees. Single people deciding these types of things produce disastrous results.
| Quote: | | Statement 1: Therefore some of us believe it is our duty to strive day and night to lead people to Him so that they may also become His children and heirs to His Kingdom. To not do so is to have no regard for the well being of those around us. |
It seems that the people mentioned in this statement:
| Quote: | | These types tend to be adamant and intellectually dishonest, and just want to affirm in their own minds what they already believe regardless of the facts presented to them. |
Are just trying to do the same thing as mentioned in statement 1, doesn't it?
| Quote: | | Perhaps many people debate for selfish reasons, but some do because they really believe what they are promoting, and want to help others to come to the light and know Christ. Even some of those that are mistaken or misinterpreting. |
How do YOU know YOU aren't mistaken or misinterpreting? I'm not saying that you are, just turning your blanket statement back around on you.
Anyone can say that everyone else is mistaken and misinterpreting. Heck, it seems it's the favorite game of denominations and especially of individuals who believe they've had personal revelation from God.
No matter what, it still comes down to your own convictions if you truly want faith to be something personal. |

Well you said they should make their decisions based on personal convictions even when they are wrong. How can you criticize them for it then, and who's to say that your personal convictions are better than theirs?

Committees make disastrous results as well. Take Congress for example. Wise decisions occur by wise leadership. The quantity of people involved in the process is usually irrelevant compared to the quality.

No not necessarily. Perhaps they have discovered the truth and a means of salvation, and would love to have others share in the joy.

Because I believe I have examined God's view with an open mind and am following Him rather than a man made religion.

That is very true. That's why God didn't found a religious institution or denomination. Those are always used as a means of control and deception. He has revealed Himself to us however, and we can know Him and know that He is who He claims.
| Quote: | | No matter what, it still comes down to your own convictions if you truly want faith to be something personal. |
If your faith is personal rather than being based on objective truth, then you have just invented a false god or idol in your own mind that doesn't exist and cannot save you. The only way to truly be saved is to get to know the true God and be adopted into His family. This is possible and He does exist, but He has revealed Himself to us through His word and not by man made religions.

Or at least your own personal little twists on what you want Him to be saying
