Vsjb34, I looked over Malachi 3 and did not see your point. God says to give everything due to God to God and you will find that it is more blessed to give than to receive. Note that the "whole tithe" could refer to the 23% average over three years.

While I'll be the first to admit I've had my share of experiences with church people wanting to maintain invisible chains on my line of thought, I have also had plenty of people point me to truth I wouldn't have found without their input.

I agree, none of us need a mediator to have a relationship with God but I appreciate and willingly help those who've helped break invisible chains on my line of thought.
If someone in ministry has a message that does something for me, that is life-affirming and empowering, I will help that person keep proclaiming that message.

As stewards of the Lord's resources, we should be directing those resources to the Great Commission, making disciples of all nations.

This is done through the supporting of our local Churches, as well as our own ministry.

This second point is one many fail to identify. We all have a ministry.

My ministry is foster care for boys. My wife and I give to our local Church, but much of our resources are directed toward supporting our foster children and sharing with them and their parents the Word of God. Every child and every parent gets a Bible from us. I also make and distribute topical indexes and tracts for sharing withe these folks and other new believers I come into contact with. I print these at home and carry them with me everywhere. I once had a long discussion with a hotel maid in Texas who just came to Christ out of the Catholic church! God works everywhere! We should "always be prepared to give a reason for the hope that [we] have".

Every believer has his own ministry. I suggest you look at yours and direct part of your resources toward that end. Making and distributing biblical information to fellow workers and new believers, buying bibles for folks, going to retirement centers and reading to seniors, etc.

Let us all do our part in this work of God.

I go to a small church (100-) where everybody knows everybody. My wife was church secretary for 24 years. She never told me who, but she told me that 5 families supported the church & some of the well to do, didn't pay there tithes! Confused or disgusted

Through those faithful families who believed that it was more blessed to give that to recieve. They believed in supporting the church. God used them & God blessed them & our church has flurished. Smile

Since God is in, an of, everything... then everything that you put your money into is putting it into God.

Tithes were originally donations made to take care of the MEN that gave their lives to God.. or had their lives given to God, rather. Tithes have nothing to do with the church, but the church has something to do with tithes.
