This is a strange phrase used to describe someone that is very guilty, I guess.

But it really makes no sense to me.

Of course the person that sins is guilty. But is SIN itself guilty? Twisted Evil

Just an interesting observation..... Wink Question Confused or disgusted
Do we know where this derived from?

It's not derived from the Bible....

Hi YLTYLT,

Most likely derives from this Biblical principle, THE biblical principle in fact:

The person who sins is guilty of sin.
But since the first sin is to hate self as guilty, Mt 5:43-48
when the person who is guilty hates being guilty,
he is guilty of the sin of hating and of being guilty, or he is doubly guilty;
and even when innocent he is still guilty... of the sin of Hate for being guilty.
2 Cor 12;10.

Similarily, people say they are sick and tired of being sick and tired because they have the sick & tried attitude of Hate for being sick and tired.

Or people say that they are stressed by stress because they hate stress na dhate selves as stressed and so are stresed by Hate and by the stress and so are doubly stressed or dis-stressed.

Or people say that they get twisted by the twisted for the same reason: they already have the twisted attitude of Hate for themselves as twisted, and so get doubly twisted by twists in life.

This pattern of the Sin of Hate for any words works with all words.

The word Hate hates itself, which is a sin in itself, and so Hatred is guilty as sin. This is why Hate and Haters who hate Haters are in need of Love.
So we can say also that Hate is as innocent of Love as to the nth degree.
Hatred makes us doubly guilty when guilty, and makes us guilty even when innocent.

Love makes us doubly innocent when innocent, or makes us doubky untwisted when untwisted,
and
Love makes us innocent even when guilty, or makes us untwisted even when we are in a twist.smile
2 Cor 12;9-10.

The word Love loves itself which is a righteousness in itself and so Love is innocent as righteousness.
So we can say that Love is as guilty of Love as to the nth degree.

Hope that helps.

as Innocent as Love for the innocent and the guilty,
as guilty of Love for the innocent and the guilty,
