Fancy thread!
Why did it dry up?
::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Whould like it to continue
::::::::::::::::::::::::::
I live in Pretoria. Beautiful place, well it was. We don`t have fancy big buildings like the Americans but we do have this:

Big, but most of all it was built to last thousands of years!.
It is usually empty, but every 16 December it is surrounded by Thousands of people, who wants to honor the Vow we made on 16 December 1838.

.............................Where's Everyone From?
Yes Prys,it brought back a lot of memories! This thread was started back before I joined this board in Sept of 2002. This thread nearly 6 years old, the opening post over 6years. Smile

I don't usually like bringing back old threads.
But it would be intresting to see where everyone is from!
So let's try it!

I was born and raised in Utah. I spent much of my adult life there but I have been living in Montana for almost 9 years (come May 1st).

Prysdie:

Forgive my ignorance but what is the vow made on 16 December 1938 that you refer to? Is this a celebration because so few lives were lost in The Battle of Blood River under Andries Pretoris or is there another reason why this day is celebrated?

Luv

Hi luv.
I like to preach this, so here goes.

On 16 December 1838 my great great great great great... Grandfather, and a few other, about 400 men, had to face about 15 000 Zulu warriors. If you think that is scary there is more, it was misty that morning (muskets do not fire in mist, and the Zulu knew that), We had livestock (Which as you can think will go crazy if 400 men starts to fire) and we were low on ammo. There was only One able to save us, God the almighty. So we made a vow, if He gives us Victory we will:
1. Build a Temple in His name.
2. Always honor the 16th December as a sabbath.
3. Never claim to have won this on our own.
4. Teach this event to our descendants, Forever!
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Come the battle and 15000 Zulus comes marching with their spears. Of goes the muskets, and as soon as we need to reload, the Zulu retreats (Miracle). The Life stock does not get afraid (Miracle). And they flea before we run out of ammo. (Miracle) There is many more miracles, but the greatest of all, we suffered 0 Casualties.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
After the battle, something very beautiful happened:
Silence, we did not scream of joy, instead we praised God.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
To this very day we still honor that vow, well I do.
But since the black people took over this country a lot of Boer is not even aware they are bound by this Vow. It is illegal to teach it in public schools, and they totally changed the name of the day.

Hey. Good idea to revive this thread.

Where am I from? Where am I NOT from perhaps.

Born in Australia, moved to Manitoba, Canada, then Saskatchewan Canada, then Alberta, Canada, then England, then British Columbia and -- finally --

(the envelope please)

Ontario, Canada.
