Threatened? Forced? That is so unAmerican, it wont ever happen. But if we make it in their best interests to do their right duty by unelecting them if the dont do the right thing. NO implied threats, just out of office. The real issue with that scenario is that no two people would agree upon just what is correct. Leaving them to remain in office (OH that's what happens already) |
This idea sounds good, but in practice it has become impossible. The 'bad guys' have done a tremendously good job at distracting the American public, so many of the evil politicians are able to walk away from the bad things they do without the public really noticing, or if they notice, without caring.
In any case, there's a difference between doing a bad job, and actually betraying your country or being in dereliction of duty. The prior one should get you kicked out of office. The latter should get you punished legally. |

Most sane individuals when they see something in their best interest will agree to do their duty. The hard part is making it in their best interest to do the right thing. Its the money that gets in the way, re-election money, the mother's milk of politics.
Outside of a few perverts, 95% of corruption is because of money. By changing the way elections are paid for we could reduce that to a much smaller percentage. We might even get more real statesman/women back into politics rather than the shysters we have now (or the already rich)
It can be done, we must stick to it until the change is made or we can only blame ourselves. |

Back to justice dept.
It seems Gonzalez when he was the white house council went to Ashcroft while he was in the hospital seeking his approval of the warantless wiring tapping scheme. The acting Attorney General [Comey] refused to accept them and Gonzo was hoping that Ashcroft would overrule him on this. He didn't by the way and was so offended about this issue that he pointed to Comey and said he's the AG not me.
But during his testimony before the senate claimed there was no controversy concerning this scheme. In reality 5 senior members of the AG staff offered their resignations over this flap but Gonzo couldn't/wouldn't remember this scene.
The constitutional office of Attorney General is not the president's personal attorney, they are the highest officer of the court and should be non-political, more concerned with the law than who it affects. Since even the president must obey the law.
Bush's "unitary executive principle" would make the AG's office a supporter of and a function of the president another clear breach of constitutional law. A clear example of our imperial presidency under Bush. |

Yes, you've got it exactly right. All that must be done is to remove all money from politics. It's actually a TRIVIAL law to implement. There's just no incentive for the pigs feeding at the trough to put the brakes on. |
