Is the FDA doing all it can to protect us from tainted food? |

| Quote: | | In the Saturday statement, the FDA and the USDA said the possibility of human illness from eating swine exposed to melamine remains low for several reasons: "First, it is a partial ingredient in the pet food; second, it is only part of the total feed given to the hogs; third, it is not known to accumulate in the hogs, and the hogs excrete melamine in their urine; fourth, even if present in pork, pork is only a small part of the average American diet." |
how many things can you think of that you eat that comes from pork?
sausage, bacon, pork chops, hotdogs....
but because it's the least consumed food, we won't worry about it..LOL...sad...
I believe that there are reasons why we are told to eat some foods and not others in the bible. Not just for reasons in the past but as premontitons of the future.
swine....
let's see, we've had mad cow disease, bird flu, the spinach problem, the peanut butter scare....tainted baby formula...
I'm sure there's more, just can't think of them right now.

I know that Bush gutted the EPA. Did he gut the FDA as well? _________________ "Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction."

hmmm...it's more a factor of industrialized food production...Take any food and there are probably only 3-4 companies that produces 95% of that foodstuff...the amount of centralized production varies, but if you're company is kicking out 2.3 million chicken nuggets a day...when you have a bad day, so does the whole country.
Back "in the day" most stuff was grown or slaughtered or whatever locally...if there was a "Bad day", then folks in that immediate area got sick, but it was impossible for folks from Washington State, Nebraska, and Maine to all get sick from that "bad day"....
as for tainted food? Read Upton Sinclair's The Jungle...then we'll talk about tainted food
But my advice? Buy locally when you can (if it's a regional producer ) _________________ Links of note:"Review for Doubting Christians"

Well, rght now we're in Arkansas....and it's real hard to pull up into a local grocery store in a big rig..LOL..
or on the side of the road...
Mostly we shop at wal-mart most have parking lots big enough to get around in. We have a small dorm refrigerator, a microwave oven, a george forman grill..
so we can cook but storing the food is difficult..
so we depend on the big grocery stores and truck stops to get our food.
That's about as local as we can get..LOL...
Arkansas heading to New Jersey...going to be waving to FFT as we pass on by tomorrow..
have a great night

How can man add one minute to his life? While we can alter the quality of it, the length is up to God.
Whats on my plate? Whatever I can find to eat that I think is good for me and I can afford. Sometimes compromise is in order given the circumstances but none of that reflects on my relationship with the Lord. It simply goes in one end and out the other end of my digestive tract.
The Lord though, is where my heart is and from the heart my confession is made. _________________ My boss is a Jewish carpenter.

No offense, but I'll go ahead and avoid foods that stand a large chance of being tainted. I might get caught by something else, but it sure doesn't hurt to take care of yourself.
Reminds me of that joke about the man trapped in a flood who refuses offers from several people in boats and even a helicopter for assistance, claiming "God will provide." He ends up drowning, going to Heaven, and asking God why he didn't provide, whereupon God remarks, "Well gee, I sent two boats and a helicopter for you..."
Nothing wrong with using your head and playing it smart...
