|
|
1 Cor 11:5,6,15: 5 But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.6 For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.15 But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.
These verses bring up a couple of questions and a comment: 1) Is a woman to cover her head when praying or prophesying? 2) Is verse 15 saying that a womans long hair is her covering (so that she does not need any additional covering for her head)?
My comment is that women can prophesy (according to v5 which says that if a woman 'pray or prophesieth) contrary to the teachings of many churches.

1Cr 11:3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman [is] the man; and the head of Christ [is] God.
1Cr 11:5 But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with [her] head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.
1Cr 11:7 For a man indeed ought not to cover [his] head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.
Her head should not be uncovered. The head of the woman is the man. The man should not have his head covered because the woman is the glory of the man.
The man is her covering and the woman is His glory.
two heads are better than one LOL...
And the two shall become one.
The woman is the glory of man forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God...
There is neither male nor female... _________________ Joh 15:14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

G'Day, Lone!
I understand the hierarchy. I do wonder though, if a womans long hair is sufficient covering.
1 Cor 11:15 But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.
Part of the reason this question came up is that my Mom is JW. Every time she prayed or did anything related to teaching in the church, if a man was present, she covered her head with a hat or scarf.
It bothered me most when she covered her head in front of my ex-stepfather when she prayed in his presence. He did not attend church, did not study with us and, I am not even certain he believed in God. He was cruel to our family. I found it offensive that she show this kind of respect to a man who was as vindictive and mean as he was.

Hi luvnlife,
somehow long hair and curtains come together in my mind. Like the veil that covered the mercy seat...
A woman...the church...long hair...
got's to do a word search on hair..
veil covering ...
Exd 26:7 And thou shalt make curtains [of] goats' [hair] to be a covering upon the tabernacle: eleven curtains shalt thou make.
gee you think women are the goats..
Exd 36:14 And he made curtains [of] goats' [hair] for the tent over the tabernacle: eleven curtains he made them.
1Cr 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and [that] the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
1Cr 3:17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which [temple] ye are.
1Cr 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost [which is] in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
defile the temple of God...uncover sombodies nakedness?? uncovered...
working on hair and veil and covering...good stuff.. _________________ Joh 15:14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

Well, there are some things that may have rubbed off but not so much that.... HEY! Does a baseball cap count? I feel pretty comfy and at home in a baseball cap.
