Dear Readers,
Most Christians hate me for saying that there is such a thing as Christian Terrorism.. To those who are angry with me I say that I am very sorry, but I had to tell the truth, and believe me I feel your pain (It hurts). For those who say there is no such a thing as a Christian terrorism I have no apology at all.
You must face it, Christian Terrorism Exists…sad news, please read:
Thursday, 8 September 2005 – Rwanda (Africa)
Several Rwandan priests and nuns have been convicted of participating in the killing of some 800,000 minority Tutsis and moderate Hutus.
For details, please visit: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/world/africa/4225366.stm
800,000 you can’t even compare with 9/11 attacks!
Any comments?

How about we go with the premise that "Any murder committed in the name of God is Bad"...be it Christian vs Muslim, Muslim vs Hindu...
My problem with Islam is that (most) feel they are "owed" their opportunity for blood revenge and that somehow they are the victim whether they are on the offensive or defensive end of any engagement... _________________ Link to intro post of "who I am"

I am yet to be convinced that this is an example of terrorism at all, let alone Christian terrorism. It is genocide, which is considerably worse than terrorism.
As for being Christian in origin, it is far from clear that these Christian priests and nuns were in any way in charge of the genocide or that their participation had anything to do with their religious beliefs.
I've got a whole pantheon of Christian atrocities which I like to parade out whenever I see a Christian getting a little too self-righteous. This includes the Crusades, the Inquisition, the 100 Years' War, the Salem Witch Trials, etc.
So far I have not been convinced that I should add Rwanda to the list. _________________ "Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction."

I think Pondering's point was aprapo.
Any violence done in the 'name of god' is atrocious. I think too much time is spent on trying to point out that one is worse than another, or any sort of tit-for-tat.
The bottom line is this: Man commits such atrocities, whether it be religious, political, racial in origin. Man will find a way to 'justify' his sins. _________________ JP's Mind - my blog

CSR...actually, I believe you titled this "Sad news: 800,000 dead" and not Christian Terrorism...so if you want to be pedantic, line up your topic and thread titles a little straighter
but let me just say, I've been on these boards for about 2 years..you've been here about 30 days. That doesn't mean i have seniority, but it does mean I understand how conversations occur on these boards...
if you're truly interested in debate (which I don't believe you are) then you'd see that you "go with the flow" and craft your response accordingly...
instead, you appear to want to press moral equivilency and preach a message....
If you'd like to have an open discussion, I'm you're huckleberry...if not...this'll probably be the last response from me to your posts _________________ Link to intro post of "who I am"

Pondering,
You said: "If you'd like to have an open discussion, I'm you're huckleberry...if not...this'll probably be the last response from me to your posts ": Take it easy and calm down...
If you're not a Christian why are you getting upset (I can feel it)... we just chatting, not even debating...
Well they called David Robert McMenemy a Christian Terrorist, and it new Sep 26, 2006...
"and gets charged with 2nd-degree arson. Last week, as you may (or may not), have heard, David Robert McMenemy attempted to destroy an abortion clinic in Davenport, IA by dousing his car in gasoline and driving it through the wall of the Edgerton Women’s Health Center."

Csrshuttle: Your ignorance is overwhelming. The whole Rwandan mass killing was not at all religious, it wasn't even cultural since both the Hutus and Tutsis come from the same stalk of the genome. It was caused by the Dutch who separated the two groups quite artificially based upon some minor physical characteristic and set an animosity between them.
Your other example might be closer to what we might call Christian terrorism except that it was not supported by any reputable church group (maybe some illegitimate church groups though).
The bombing of Abortion clinics does set a tenor of terror among the people who want abortions and their doctors. It isn't about to stop them though. So at best it is totally ineffective for that purpose. |

dim12trav,
You said: "The whole Rwandan mass killing was not at all religious": So how about the priests and the nuns? I think they are Christian (and Terrorists)...what would you like to call them? "Jew, Muslim, Budist, Hindu..."??? Be real.
You said: "Your other example might be closer to what we might call Christian terrorism except that it was not supported by any reputable church group": Don't you consider "The Army Of God" reputable?
You said: "The bombing of Abortion clinics does set a tenor of terror among the people who want abortions and their doctors. It isn't about to stop them though. So at best it is totally ineffective for that purpose.
": Well, the purpose of the Christian Terrorists is to remind of God's Word (The BIBLE), of course people will not learn.

I was looking at the two articles again and what I didn't see (which I missed the first time) was any mention of the idea that the 'priest' involved himself in the genocide for anything other than political reasons.
I had assumed (bad me) that since a priest and nuns were involved it was necessarily something regarding killing 'in the name of God', which it turns out after all, is not the case.
I wonder, if the guy had been a doctor would his actions be automatically labeled as 'medical terrorism'? Seems to me that this whole thread is an attempt to put forth an idea which is not supported by the facts.
As for the other guy - the stupid guy in Iowa. I don't think much more needs to be said - stupid is as stupid does...
BTW, who is "The Army of God"? I've never heard of them. _________________ JP's Mind - my blog

RevJP,
You said: "As for the other guy - the stupid guy in Iowa. I don't think much more needs to be said - stupid is as stupid does...": Instead of calling him stupid what don't you fate it and call him "Terrorist"???
You said: "BTW, who is "The Army of God"? I've never heard of them.
": The Army of God is a "Christian Terrorist Group"...you can Google it..
The reason you never heard of it is because the MEDIA do not do any "Christian Terrorism" campaign ...

NO the Army of God is not a legitimate church group. They have been disavowed by every major (read reputable) religious organization in Christendom. By the way I am familiar with this crazy group of people. They might be considered Christian terrorists but like I wrote before they do not represent any legitimate orthodox thinking.
Generally people choose their teachers carefully and this Army of God doesn't qualify in any sense as teachers. They scream and yell and are ignored for the most part. They disqualify themselves from the post as teachers. |

I'm not sure if I missed a step here... or a post.
Are we attributing 800,000 deaths of Rwandans to one Catholic Priest, and then laying that on the doorstep of Christianity as a whole?
Please, say I missed something... please. _________________ Exodus 20:11 "For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them..."
