The irony is, this is one of the few countries in the world where you can get away with this without fearing for your life....and since he can act without consequence, he's free to blather his distorted view of the world...again....like all other anti-Bush anti-success whiners...he provides no credible, realistic alternative _________________ Links of note:"Review for Doubting Christians"

Just out of curiosity, do you consider me to be an anti-Bush, anti-success whiner?
(I'm not defending the guy; in fact I think he's a bit of an idiot, but I am a bit curious as to how you view my anti-Bush opinions.) _________________ "Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction."

No, I don't...I think alot of your criticism are spot on...others are a little more driven by emotion than fact, but I also don't think you're anti-success.
I truly believe there is a small (but vocal and visible via media access) group of people that are actually rooting for the Insurgents to beat us. Of course, when Mohammed shows up at their gated community with his machete, they'll call 911 (emergency response phone number) and blame Bush that no one was there to answer....
There are times when I'm frustrated with G.W, but he's got more courage than anyone else up there right now....A man willing to enter the ring and fight for what he believes in is important to me. _________________ Links of note:"Review for Doubting Christians"

You know me and how passionately I dislike Islam. I'm all for stopping its spread, weakening it, and beating it back into the desert. But what Bush is doing is NOT going to achieve that goal. I honestly believe that he's making the problem worse by
a) Inflaming tensions and giving 'moderate' Muslims something to fear, thereby helping Osama's recruitment efforts, and
b) Weakening America, because ultimately the only country on Earth which is going to stop the spread of Islam is yours.

Do you really attribute all of that courage to him? What you call courage others just call stubborness and arrogance. Besides, do you really believe that he's calling the shots in the White House? I get the impression that he's a mental lightweight next to the likes of Cheney, Rumsfeld, Pearle, Wolfowitz, etc. I believe that they're calling the shots. _________________ "Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction."

Courage that no one is willing to jeopordize their precious little careers over.... so... GW takes the heat for them.
I think his approval numbers are at about 28% right now. _________________ Exodus 20:11 "For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them..."

His numbers are in the crapper because the Iraq war was managed incredibly poorly and people are starting to see that they were misled by the administration in going to war in the first place...
On top of that we're now getting all sorts of reports that the Bush administration actively suppressed global warming results... _________________ "Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction."

Hypothetically if this surge works (a big if, I know) then, when afterwards will be able to extract our troops. The theory is that the Iraqis need calm so they can rebuild again. In theory the Iraqi police/military will be able to hold the fort so to speak.
But this period of calm will be based upon the higher figure of troops to hold that calm, and the theory that the Iraqi troops will be able afterward to keep the peace.
Well given the amount of arms within Iraq I might suggest that the peace is not likely to last longer than our troops being pulled out, whenever that might be. So the question remains, how long will we be supporting those Iraqis.
Bush's idea was 18 months and most of the people I meet scoff at that figure and say it is much longer than that, probably 5 or ten years at minimum before there is serious peace there. There will probably never be the same level of "domestic bliss" that we enjoy here in the US.
Too many if in this theory for me at the present time. Are we set up for a permanent presence in Iraq? |

One of the main reasons for invading Iraq was setting up a permanent military base there. There was never any intention of FULLY withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq. _________________ "Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction."
