Quote:
The Apocalypse of Adam
Translated by George W. MacRae
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The revelation which Adam taught his son Seth in the seven hundreth year, saying:
Listen to my words, my son Seth. When God had created me out of the earth, along with Eve, your mother, I went about with her in a glory which she had seen in the aeon from which we had come forth. She taught me a word of knowledge of the eternal God. And we resembled the great eternal angels, for we were higher than the god who had created us and the powers with him, whom we did not know.

Then God, the ruler of the aeons and the powers, divided us in wrath. Then we became two aeons. And the glory in our heart(s) left us, me and your mother Eve, along with the first knowledge that breathed within us. And it (glory) fled from us; it entered into [...] great [...] which had come forth, not from this aeon from which we had come forth, I and Eve your mother. But it (knowledge) entered into the seed of great aeons. For this reason I myself have called you by the name of that man who is the seed of the great generation or from whom (it comes). After those days, the eternal knowledge of the God of truth withdrew from me and your mother Eve. Since that time, we learned about dead things, like men. Then we recognized the God who had created us. For we were not strangers to his powers. And we served him in fear and slavery. And after these things, we became darkened in our heart(s). Now I slept in the thought of my heart.

Anyone have thoughts on this? Initially I gathered that Adam is saying he and eve were one for eons, going about in a 'glory', having all the knowledge of the world. Then eve taught Adam a word of knowledge (the fruit of the tree of life I assume) and God seperated them in wrath - which included seperating them from the knowledge they had.

Does this conflict with Genesis in anyway to anyone of you?

There are some things i don't like with the text -

Quote:
She taught me a word of knowledge of the eternal God.

It is my understanding that both Adam and Eve had knowledge of God and even walked with Him. Eve teaching Adam knowledge of God doesn't seem to jive.

Quote:
we were higher than the god who had created us and the powers with him, whom we did not know.

We were higher than God??
We did not know God??

Quote:
Then we became two aeons.

According to this account, Adam and Eve started off as one, then became 2 because of God's wrath. That contradicts the scriptures.

It seems to me that this is probably a perversion of scripture.

Does this sound a little bit manschauvinistic to me? Yes...
Face it, eve ate first, thus she gained knowledge, that she later shared with Adam. I'd say she indeed could've been able to teach Adam knowledge about God that Adam didn't know.

Best regards,

You obviously didn't read my post very well.

My point wasn't that Adam couldn't be taught by Eve. My point was that they BOTH knew God before they ate of the fruit. So how could she teach Adam about God if they both already knew about Him??

They knew God before the fruit, and the fruit didn't teach anything about God. That is my point.

By the way, I used to live in Ohio. What part are you from?

To put it simple, you and I both know God, yet we don't know the same things about God Wink
