In the book of Jonah,
Jon 3:7 And he caused [it] to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:
Jon 3:8 But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that [is] in their hands.
Why does he tell everyone not to eat and drink?
Rev 8:11 And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.
Why are we told to cover ourselves with sackcloth?
¶ The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.
Rev 8:12 ¶ And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise.
Why are we told to cry mightily?
Gen 7:12 And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.
What was Jonah's message?
Jon 3:4 And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.
let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that [is] in their hands.
Isa 2:4 And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.
Nah 1:1 ¶ The burden of Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.
Nah 1:2 ¶ God [is] jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and [is] furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth [wrath] for his enemies.
Nah 1:3 The LORD [is] slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit [the wicked]: the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds [are] the dust of his feet.
Nah 1:4 He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers: Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth.
Nah 1:5 The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein.
Nah 1:6 Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him.
Nah 1:7 The LORD [is] good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.
Nah 1:8 But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.
Mat 12:41 The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas [is] here.
So what must we do?
Fast for forty days and forty nights...drink no water, eat no meat.
Put on sackcloth and humble ourselves and to protect us from the elements.
Cry with great weeping, create a flood of tears that will cover the heat of those days.
Refrain from war and come together in peace...and pray. _________________ Joh 15:14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

Lone: you've taken things out of context again. In your excitement over some scriptural discovery you've taken things that don't belong together, slapped them together with glue, and wondered why they don't make sense.
The story of Nineveh was self contained. You point to the Ninevites response to Jonah's prophecy and tried to apply it to everyone and that is just not how it works. They repented and showed it in that specific way. Yes we need to repent, but that is not necessarily the way we do it.

These admonitions are out of context and they don't apply to us. How in the world did you connect the "forty days" with the "fasting of the Ninevites"? You need to take a course in Hermeneutics, to understand how to take things our of scripture and make them apply to the way we do things here and now |

Jesus fasted for forty days and forty nights...
and he had nowhere to lay his head...
he covered himself with humility and humbleness..
he cried for the world...
He gave his life for peace and not war...
I suppose it could have been "taken out" of context...
But I believe the message is the same..
He in us, us in him...following his example.....and becoming like him...
I suppose trav..
Hugs
God Bless

1Co 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
