Given the massive amounts of Methane in the solar system and some of the paradigms of how the earth was created, there might just still be huge amounts of undiscovered oil. It will take additional technology to get at it, but that is my guess for now.

And a lot of good it will do us seeing as how using it is destroying the planet. But hey, the oil companies making money is more important than our ice caps.

We could take every dollar generated in our economy and use it against global warming and it will still not prevent it, or slow it down.

Instead lets find some way to adjust to it, since we know it is on its way lets do something like get ourselves away from the coasts. Anyone stupid enough to live right on the coast should be forced to either move their homes or do without insurance. No subsidies for their costs.

Actually Wahabism is the subgrouping of Muslim the Leaders of Saudi Arabia have not representative of the whole country. When I lived there 1980-81 all of the Muslims I knew were Sunni.

In fact the most common sentiment expressed by the ordinary people is their desire to return to their old tribal way and return to the desert. The invasion of the oil people with their dirty business, did more to ruin Saudi Society than anything our culture might have done. Just give anyone $1 million per year without anything to do and guess what happens?

Wahabism is not a seperate entity from being a Sunni. All the Muslims you knew WERE Sunni!

I don't think so...it's more like "Some Protestants are Baptists"...

The Sunni/Shi'a split is more along the Catholic/Protestant line...

Sunni's believe that Mohamed's faithful friend and follower, Abu Bakr, to be the rightful sucessor to him... the Caliph if you will. The Shi'te beleive that his sucessor was to be continue through his daughter Fatima. The Catholic/Protestant split is about a close as analogy you are going to get… now as far as the Wahabis are concerned… it is like the Baptist (Zwingli) and Lutheran (Luther) split.

That is my understanding also... which is why I don't understand what he was trying to say.

Sunni was more along the lines of the Catholic Church... Shi'te broke from them. Whabbism is kinda like the Eastern Orthodox version of Catholicism... but only angrier… does that make sense?

Every person or govt is both friend and foe.

We are also friend and foe.

The real foe is Hate of self as foe.
The real friend is Love of self as foe and ami.

Why does the world have to be friends with the U.S? It is just a small country run by small men with small brains and smaller *Hairy Human Bowling Balls*.

and HUUUUGE, Successful economy that is the envy of the world Wink

so...your first part is fine. No one has to be our friends.
I personally prefer the concept of America: No better friend, no worse enemy. The difference between here and most places...we even help the people of our "enemies"...
