often Gospel The proclamation of the redemption preached by Jesus and the Apostles, which is the central content of Christian revelation.
Not sure how you equate your extrapolated beliefs as Gospel. Whether your interpretation of the Scriptures you feel support your view is actually a correct interpretation is debatable, you may be right, you may not be. But to posit the idea that your interpretation is Gospel, and to justify the way you treat others on this site as a holy right and obligation is just wrong.
You justify your actions by labeling them as righteous rebuke, and you claim seperation of insulting and being rude to others from a dismissal of thier arguments. That is bogus - to use one of your terms...
If you are decrying someone's argument, you should address the argument without using words and phrases that insinuate a personality or personality traits, since we know a premise and supporting points do not have a personality nor can they embody personal ideals such as stupidity, childishness, deceit, etc. When you use adjectives like that you are in actuality addressing the person making the argument, which is insulting.
To label an insult as rebuke is a deceit in itself. |

I think its safe to say, from inference as well as from Van's other posts, that Van means he will challenge people to support their positions with scripture when it steps out of the pale of orthodoxy. That's one part of why we're here--to challenge and be challenged that we may grow in our understanding. Lighten up.
When I think of the Gospel (whether rightly or wrongly), I tend to think of those things having to do with salvation; i.e., the fundamental tenets of Christianity. Those things are not so difficult to understand from the biblical writings. If someone puts forth a doctrine that, if followed by others, Van believes would lead them away from salvation or away from an intimate relationship with the true Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, I would expect no less of him than to challenge that position.
JP, the rest of your post sounds like something better left to a private e-mail.

Phin,
You're probably right about the email. Perhaps my own pride got in my way today - for that I apologize. |
