Hello,
My name is Alex. I am not a religous man by all means... I never have. But lately something has been pulling me towards religion. I am confused I guess you could say. Everyday I wonder why everything happens how it does. My life is so upside down right now. All that stupid stuff is just putting me in a downward spiral. I want to start living a better life. I have lost friends over absolutly stupid things. I want to change and I try to change but I can't seem to say no to things that I should be saying no to. In a sense I need help and I hate to say it but when all else fails, do I turn to god? I have not read more than 2 chapters of the bible. Why should I turn to God/Jesus when for so long I have turned him down? You can look at me and turn away. But any explination would be helpful.
Thanks. |

Hi Alex, and welcome to the forum!
There is no particular reason for why you should immediately turn to religion. There are plenty of other moral codes that don't involve spiritual entities or magic. A good example is secular humanism. I suggest that you read a little bit about it.
Here is the Wikipedia article on it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secular_humanism _________________ "Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction."
-Blaise Pascal
"...with or without religion, good people can behave well and bad people can do evil; but for good people to do evil -that takes religion..."
-Steven Weinberg
"I would bless my children with your destruction instead."

Hello Alex,
Welcome to the forum.
There are a lot of people here and we all walk different walks. But for the most part we share our thoughts our ideas, hopes and dreams. We laugh, cry, tease eachother and hug eachother.
I consider everyone here on the forum my friend, even if we don't see eye to eye, or agree on any detail whatsoever...
I hope you decide to stick around make some friends.

Psa 34:13 Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.
Psa 34:14 Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.
Psa 34:18 The LORD [is] nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

Psa 94:17 Unless the LORD [had been] my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence.
Psa 94:18 When I said, My foot slippeth; thy mercy, O LORD, held me up.
Psa 94:19 In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul.

Jer 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
Jer 29:12 Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.
Jer 29:13 And ye shall seek me, and find [me], when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
God Bless Alex

Hi Alex,
Yours was the first thread I read when I registered a few minutes ago and it made me think of so many people who feel lost and then suddenly find a place where they can find answers for all the questions they are pondering. This seems like the best place to come for help. If you read through the forums, I'm sure you will find a new home that will help you build your faith. I'm not new to bible study, and yet I feel that I learn something new every day about my walk. My favorite quote is: Be patient, God's not through with me yet.
You've crossed the first threshold,,,,admitting that you want change in your life, and I pray that you will find the right path to follow through the fellowship of the friends you find in this study community!!! |
