What Does God Define as the Wrong Music?
If music without drums, syncopation, or a rock beat is acceptable music, then “Yesterday” by the Beatles would be suitable for a Christian. This song has no drums, syncopation, or rock n roll beat – so what’s wrong with it? It doesn’t talk about drugs, illicit behavior, or violence – so what’s wrong with it? What’s wrong with it is the source. It was written by God-hating communist devils. Rock n roll music was pioneered by ungodly sinners like Little Richard, a sodomite filthy animal, and Ray Charles, a heroin addict. The source of rock n roll music is ungodly.
According to God, there are only two sources of music – the Father and the world. “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” – I John 2:16. God says that all that is in the world is not of the Father and falls under one of these three sinful categories – the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. Therefore all music from the world is wrong because the source is wrong. Therefore not only rock n roll music is wrong, but pop, rap, country, rock, jazz, classical, and easy listening are all wrong as well because they are of the world. |

Hmmm... if something has it's 'source' from the world then by definition it is sinful? If so, then God help us all because the entiretly of our existence in everyday life is dipped in sinfulness.
I wonder what that member used to post that dissertation on music? I would be it was a PC, and it was posted on an Internet site, using electricity, an apparent use of the english language (grammar, etc). So by the definition provided, the entire post was sinful, wasn't it?
The very first thing I thought of when I read that.... nonsense (for lack of a better, non-aggrivational, descriptive) was what Christ told us:
"It is not what goes into a man's mouth that defiles him, but what comes out..." |

Humans are incredibly gifted at music. We have created an enormously creative range of melodies and musical interactions.
I find it strange that some people think that any part of this is 'unGodly'. I would argue that it's the exact opposite. When our species shows such diversity and creative genius, that is as close as we ever get to being Godly. |

I agree P.
Although, there is some 'music' out there that causes me to wish I were in hell rather than hear it.... |

| Music should glorify God I believe. I like all types of music but I abhor derogatory music i.e., RAPP. Won't allow that crap in my house. Heavy Metal,Hard Rock and a whole lot of that other mess that is being called Music these days also not allowed in my House. Give me some of that good old fashioned, down home gospel like they used to sing in those old country churches. You know, the kind that will make you pat your foot and put your paws together, LOL. I also don't particularly care for this new age Gospel, the kind they call Contemporary, like Kirk Franklin and the like. |

Things like this and this (the first being just the drum track, the second being the song as a whole). But I bet you still wouldn't like it (though probably for wholly different reasons).
Basically I think you're stuffy. |

Man, why do you think I'm angry? Seriously. It's getting annoying
I mean, right now I'm as happy as I've been in a couple weeks, as my girlfriend came back into town last night and I get to spend time with her. Plus, I got to go off on an extremely long tangential post on another forum. I mean, I've probably been a bit angry with you in the past, but I'm most certainly not right now. I just don't have the capacity at the moment, what with being full, the lack of sobriety, sleepiness, and about-to-join-my-girlfriend-in-bed-goodnight-ness. |

Those all about sum it up. Stodgy is a more specific description. It's music, man. There's this thing we call "progress," which means eventually you'll hate new music and wish more people listened to the stuff you like. I, personally, can't stand a lot of the new music that's coming out, but I certainly don't tell other people that they shouldn't listen to it. |

I listen to all kinds of music.
It's the message in the lyrics that's good or not. Whatever it comes out as is coming from inside the one writing it.
So if it sounds hurtful, the one who wrote it is hurting, or good, good.
If the sound of the music is hurtful or helpful.
You can tell, you become sensitive to things.
And people going through all kinds of things all the time, and so to say this group is good or bad depends upon where they are at the time in themselves.
I hear music from this band and today the song is good, but tomorrow they write another song and it sounds trashy...
so what your hearing is either their happiness or anger or sadness...
They're giving you a peak inside their soul and sharing it with the world.
If it doesn't sit well with where you are today, don't listen to it, but maybe tomorrow you might feel the same and be able to relate. Then you will know that your not the only one in the world feeling this way or that way.
It's a connector. A way for people to laugh or grieve, and to share with others.
Well that's how I feel about it anywho..
God Bless

Just cause I don't like it don't mean I am gonna tell anyone else thay shouldn't like it. Heck, I don't like spinach but I am certainly not gonna tell anyone else they shouldn't like it. And Conservative? You're calling me, a gay man, conservative? Isn't that kinda like an oxy-moron? And Ill-tempered and sulky, LOL? Are you mad at me? And pompous ( now that hurts, lol). You really don't like me do you? If you were trying to hurt me, then you've succeeded! |

Been a loooooong time since I studied music, but it's interesing that "pleasing" music follows the same laws math/ration that are "pleasing" to the eye...for example, certain chords (1:3:5) are considered "soothing or harmonious"...that same numerical ratio looks "balanced" in architecture and is pleasing to the eye (Greek buildings and alot of Catholic churches were built using this ratio)...chords that aren't in this ratio are dissonant and are either "fingers on the chalkboard" or those "sad" chords we use in sad songs...buildings built in those ratios also look "odd"
Personally, I think it's a peek of a look at the internal workings of the universe (Universal Laws)...but that's just my worldview |

Sure; there's plenty of music that I don't like. But I can concede that most of the stuff that I don't like has artistic merit and that it took talent and creativity to make it. |
