Here's a great one... Warren Buffet is giving away billions of dollars, and in so doing is objectively making the world a better place, and some idiot priest is calling him the 'Dr. Mengele of Philantropists' because some of that money is going to support Planned Parenthood...

Yup, billions of dollars, definately makes more cents, than the good that one man "...could ever hope to do..." perhaps more good, buffet's billions will do, than all the men, who ever walked the earth, including the buffet boy himself!

| So how does that equate to me caring what some priest has to say about it? The money is being given to good causes isn't it? What is so important to me about someone not agreeing with it? |

I thought that it was relevant to this discussion board. Christians are supposed to try to make the world a better place, and finally here is someone who is doing more than ANYONE to make a positive impact, but there seems to be no pleasing some people, such as the Christian priest who outrageously likened Buffet to Dr. Mengele, who was a total monster.
It would have been outrageous enough if he just complained a little about him. But calling him Dr. Mengele really shows how crazy some people are. |

So what you are saying is that ALL christians should be held accountable for the opinions of one man? All christians should hold the same view or jump up and denounce that view if they do not agree with it?
What about athiests, do all athiests agree on all things? Why not? Shouldn't they form together and denounce the opinions of those athiests who do not agree with the rest?

Nope. But I'm guessing that these aren't just the 'opinions of one man'. I'm guessing that a whole lot of anti-abortionists dislike Bill Gates and Warren Buffet because of their support for Planned Parenthood.

Not really, but it would be good if other Christians stood up and defended the good work that Buffet is doing when an idiot goes and compares him to Dr. Mengele... But I see that you already did exactly this, so I'm really not complaining about you.

No, of course not, but certainly the spectrum of atheistic beliefs is MUCH more unified than the spectrum of Christian beliefs.

If the views held are crazy enough, then yes. You show me an example of an atheist saying crazy things (somewhere on par with calling Warren Buffet Dr. Mengele), and I'll jump on the band wangon denouncing him.

No, I am aware that he is Roman Catholic, but that makes him a Christian, and this place is called bible-discussion.com, so I thought that his viewpoint was fair game for my criticism. I even managed to put it into the right forum! |

How do you know they haven't? Have you searched for dissenting opinions to this article?

This is neither here nor there, but it is also another unsupported assumption. From what I have seen atheists have one believe in common - that there is no God, and Christians have numerous beliefs in common. However, like I said; this is neither here nor there.

I guess that depends on how loosely you want to define Christian, however it still does not change the fact that he is not a Christian Priest, he is a Roman Catholic Priest (or did you miss that reference in your article?) |

RevJP, I think you're misinterpreting the intent of my post. I'm not trying to make the argument that this priest is an idiot, and therefore all Christians are bad. I was just trying to highlight an example of religious beliefs going awry.
If you ever see an article describing an atheist whose non-religious beliefs cause him to say something terrible, by all means feel free to post a link to it. |
