I found this picture while looking for pictures of Jesus Baptism. I use a larger version of it for my wallpaper. I think it is gorgeous.

Beautiful. Strenght and submission, that's what I see in it. Very inspiring. Thanks for posting it!

Yeah, great artist. Looks like Jesus is fighting off the water drops from his eyes like one does when getting out of the shower. In other words, it looks acurate as far as facial expressions. I always pictured John as a scruffy guy though. The Bible describes him as being on an extreme diet and wearing animal skin rags. I always enjoyed John's humbleness in that he told Christ that they should reverse roles during the Baptism.

You ever wear a camel’s hair jacket? Go on down to your local Men’s Store and give it a feel. The elements describing John tB’s character are meant to denote monetary wealth, not bizarre freakazoid behaviour. (Just think how much honey cost back then, not to mention locust bean.)

Yehu
(Rather enjoying this.)

PS: I wish Jesus was Jewish, though, rather than the long haired Viking as pictured. (Needs short curly hair with a real Jewish schnoz. And no that’s not an insult.)

Not only is it not an insult, it's scriptural. Remember how Judas had to point Jesus out to the Romans because they couldn't tell him from the rest of the disciples?

It isn't what he looks like or their clothes that I like, but what the picture represents. We know that Jesus looked Jewish, it is a well-known fact.
My mother has always lamented to me about this fact (she found out at age 40 that her maternal grandparents were Jewish). Every time she saw a picture of Yeshua, she would point out that he didn't look Jewish enough (and still does). I say that yes, Yeshua looked Jewish, but these pictures are representations, and not literal ones. Can anyone look beyond the looks and look at what the picture is saying?

Yes, it’s saying Jesus is a white guy. Kind of a hippy WASP.

Symbolism has great impact upon one’s prejudices.

For example I hadn’t known John tB was part of Gandolf’s first order. (Aren’t camels tan?)

Sorry Christine, I tend to reject symbolism in my quest for reality.

If you let what a person in a picture decide what you think of them, what would you think if you saw me? I am not white, I am half Navajo. Some people give me dirty looks because they think I look Mexican (I have nothing against hispanics myself). I have been called racial slurs in the past, too. I have decided a long time ago not to worry so much what people look like but what they represent. I try to look at what a person does than worry if he is black, white, or whatever. What Yeshua did for us goes beyond what he supposedly looked like. My stepfather is an American of Japanese background, he was in a interment camp during WWII with his parents. I know only too much about racism. My brother has the worst problem in the family. He looks like my mother who is Italian and Jew and has my father's native American coloring, which makes him look like a middle eastern man!
To me worrying about what a person looks like is very shallow.

Oh, and this picture is about Yeshua being baptised. We all should be baptized when we become saved, since Yeshua did it.

actually wild honey is very common in that region...so getting it for free would not bee Laughing that difficult...also, can you show that it was locust bean and not the insect that j.t.b. ate?...as the insect is legal to eat under the law and is and has always been in the diet for many tribes in that area, it is not a far fetched idea at all and was actually probably what he ate...they still use them in stews today...as well as roasted..i think floured and deep fried would be best... Very Happy

lev.11:22 even these of them ye may eat; the locust after his kind, and the bald locust after his kind, and the beetle after his kind, and the grasshopper after his kind.

ps. they are said to taste like shrimp...

Except for the risks of stinging. (Who would risk that for free?) If you could come up with some supportive evidence that bee farming was common at the time and honey just as cheap as lamb or wool or wheat it would be appreciated. And how do you know that it was the insect?

Hmmm considering that Mojo seems to revel in such cultural symbology, I think I'll need to ask her what's she thinks.

Yehu
(And I'm not trying to trash the sentiment found in the picture, I just find it gets in the way.)

I looked at that beautiful picture, and thought to myself:

He's got the whole world in his hands....

God Bless

Lone

Jhn 1:6 ¶ There was a man sent from God, whose name [was] John.
Jhn 1:7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all [men] through him might believe.
Jhn 1:8 He was not that Light, but [was sent] to bear witness of that Light.
Jhn 1:9 [That] was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
Jhn 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
Jhn 1:11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
Jhn 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name:
Jhn 1:13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
Jhn 1:14 ¶ And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Jhn 1:15 John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.
Jhn 1:16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.

we don't...that was the point...but since it is ok with the law...it is quite possible...also...

bee farming is not neccessary for taking honey...just a little smoke and with those thick camel skin cloths...he would have it made...remember samson took honey from wild bees...and they are very common there...who knows though...he may have had his own farm of bees Very Happy Very Happy especially if he was a man of monetary stature like you have suggested....and camels have always been a sign of prestige and wealth....they are very expensive....so that supports your assertion...plus considering his family...you know with his daddy being a priest and all...a potentially wealthy position to be sure...and he was an only kid...

at one time we had 18 hives when i was a kid...so we always had honey...good stuff... Very Happy Very Happy

i looked and found where someone said there is a picture on wall dating around 1500b.c. of people harvesting honey from bees kept in pottery vessels....but didn't look any further... Very Happy Very Happy ...that would indicate farming...plus...when GOD promised the israelites canaan...HE said it was a land flowing with milk and honey Very Happy Very Happy ...
