Hello, I've just recently begun reading the bible and seriously devoting time to God. I am still learning more about being more religious, but I am confident that God is behind me.

I joined the Army 2 weeks ago. I'm 17, and a Junior in High School. I plan on going active and going Infantry when I graduate. I just am not sure how I will feel about having to go into combat, as far as religiously.

I would like to learn more about being religiously active. I am not any certain denomination, as I don't really quite know the differences, or qualities of the different ones. I would like to be more enlightened.

Thank you.

You know those ten handy little guidelines your God wants you to follow?

Somehow, I don't think he feels the same way.

FFT, I thought we had an understanding (from your own assertions) that you would not post in certain forums?

I don't see how your comments here offer anything valid or constructive to the discussion and I think it would be to everyone's benefit if you limited your opinions to forums not dedicated specifically to those meant for believers.

Crap. Sorry, I've been using the 'most recent posts' viewer and didn't notice the forum this was in. My bad.

Though while my post isn't supportive, I'd probably feel that way were I a Christian.

Me thinks you ought to work on your relationship with God... not being "religious". Being 'religious' has a way of making one's faith meaningless... if you understand what I mean.

It looks like you need a promotion... you could have just lied or something... SGT Halase... or why even half-step... Captain Halase. Its got a nice ring to it. Wink

Also, if you have been in basic training for two weeks... how in tarnation can you get access to the internet. > CAUTION: War Story Follows< When I was in basic, they didn't even let us look at the phone for the first month... let alone talk on it. Now, we're letting trainees use the internet. Rolling Eyes That explains the quality of privates we're turning out these day. Laughing

Denominations are like telephone numbers. Some are close... some are a few in completely different areas codes... and some, you need to dial an operator to get you patched into an a hut in the middle of the desert.

TEST ALL THINGS is about the best advice I could even try giving you. Read the Gospel of John... review the commentary... understand it... then go church 'shopping'. Also, talk to the Chaplin. They are always willing to point young soldiers in the right direction. Actually, he would probably appreciate seeing someone who isn't trying to get out of the Army. Laughing

The desire to be 'enlightened' seems to imply that you are searching for knowledge... which is great... really... I would caution you though... Buddhists look for 'enlightenment' along with many "New Age' Cults. All the information you need is right there in that Bible you are reading.

Glad to see here!

Welcome to the discussion group! I am also new to this website and am still learning about spirituality myself. Another response suggested church shopping which is an excellent way to try out different denominations. You can read all you want about religions, but you need to experience different services to see what suits your needs. Most congregation members are only too happy to explain the tenents of their faith and how the service works.

Trinity,

He's still in High School, not quite basic Shocked

Atleast that's how I understood him lol.

My brothers (both former marines) were barely allowed to write letters, let alone look at or use a phone. Then again the army has always been softer than the USMC Laughing

Just kidding. They all kill and get killed. Really sad.

From what I glean he is what they refer to as a 'Split-Option-Trainer'. Meaning, if they enlist in the National Guard during their Junior year, they will complete Basic Training that summer (between Junior and Senior) and then after their Senior year, go to their MOS (Specialty) school.

Just my humble informed opinion. Wink

I'm sorry.

Well dah... most Marines don't know how to write to begin with, so whats the point of giving them time to do in the first place. Very Happy

Again... numbers... lots of them to remember... and then, they have to put them in the correct order...

No argument there. We get drivers licenses and know how to operate computers.

The cost of personal freedoms ain't a free lunch. We should ALL be thankful for their service and sacrifices!

"The cost of personal freedoms ain't a free lunch. We should ALL be thankful for their service and sacrifices!"

WW2 and the American Revolution were a while ago. . . most of those fellows are gone, but I'm thankful for their service. Modern day (meaning ever since WW2) military action however. . . thankful isn't quite the word. Not that the enlisted men are at fault in any way, it's just that the military isn't the same anymore. Nothing to do with personal freedoms.

Anyway Shocked I should have kept my mouth shut and not made this political. Disregard my comments.

As far as the USMC comments, puuuuuuuulease Wink

Jarheads, eh?

Hi pvt.halase! Welcome to the boards!

If I might make a few suggestions, whatever you learn in your search to be more religiously active in your life, trust in the Lord Jesus Christ in all affairs that are done, in truth; not doctrine. Keep the confidence that God is behind you in every act that you make in truth. When the time truly comes for you to decide to go into combat or not, ask the Lord for His grace, and seek honor of His Name over everything else. Ok, that was it.
