Hi All,
I'm resently accepted Jesus as my Lord and have been Born again and baptized. And I truely want a close walk with the Lord. Oh yes I've been in this for a little over a year. And our pastor has been preaching on holiness and he believes if a woman wears pants or make-up she is goning to Hell. Now this is his belief, he does'nt require the ladies to abide by this, only if they are in a leadership role. I like to have other opinions of this requirement. I thought that we were to live by grace and not our works?? |

Does this mean he thinks only women in leadership will go to Hell if they wear makeup/pants while those not in leadership can wear makeup or pants and God doesn't mind? Why would God expect something different out of those in leadership than anyone else? Where's the scriptural support for that?!!
Or does he believe ALL women who wear makeup or pants will go to Hell, but he personally enforces this law if the woman is in leadership? That's just about as ridiculous.
Yes, Herb, we are saved by grace, apart from ANY works. Sadly, legalism is so rampant in mainstream Christianity, it's deplorable. Very sad situation.
Welcome to the board, and remain steadfast in the knowlege that you are right with God, regardless what you wear, do, say, or whatever. You're accepted because of what Jesus did, not what you do.

One of the difficulties of Bible study is to determine if a teaching to the audience of the writer, also applies to us today. Some think that Paul's restrictions concerning dress and function within the church just represent the culture of the time and the only timeless teaching is to behave in a manner calculated not to cause needless turmoil.
I think the Bible teaches we should not judge people based on superficial concerns.
It is true that members of a local assembly are to submit to the Elders, it is also true that we are to assess whether they are false teachers.
If you have concerns about your Pastor, you should meet with him privately and discuss your concerns. You should ask him to explain the biblical basis for his dress code, and whether if we violate any biblical mandate (such as looking upon someone other than your spouse lustfully) we will lose our salvation and go to hell.
As discussed in other threads, I do not believe you can lose your salvation, or earn your salvation or maintain your salvation. It is a gift from God. But I believe that if you are saved, you will earnestly try to live in accordance with your understanding of the teachings of Christ. Which includes quickly settling differences with fellow believers.

Hi herb,
Would definitely encourage you to heed Van's advice.
In all 'these' matters (i.e. 'dress-codes'- [Non-Doctrianl traditions]) I think moderation is the key. As some-one once said "Blessed are the balanced". These issues which can become very 'legalistic' can be a real hinderance to our Christian walk. The time we often waste discussing it when we could be talking about our Saviour .
Nice to have you on board,
Tiger |

| I wouldn't be comfortable in a church that dictates such strict rules. If you are saved by grace then you have no fear of hell, regardless if you wear makeup, pants or whatever.Jesus paid it all.JESUS PAID IT ALL.I would give careful consideration to membership in a church that teaches otherwise. |

My only concern is the difference the Pastor buts between Women in leadership roles and the other. He also has all the men wear Long Sleves in leadership postions. I've read in the bible were Paul talks about dressing MODST. But the Greek Defintaion I get is arranged well. Men also can't have their hair long. Can't exceed the natual hair line. He is a GREAT Pastor except for this small problem. and its only a problem to me. I just can't find that the bible supports this.
Thanks,
God Bless, you all

| I would agree that any church / pastor that emphasizes this kind of legalism is dangerous. Christianity is about our *relationship* with Christ - not about rules of dress or behavior. The focus should be on relationship and the rest would fall into place. |
