ive actually been doing alot of reading
and i went as far as subscribing to a member in bibleinayear.org
everything is good and services are great
except sometimes i feel that it is pointless because i dont even know what these guys are talking about and how i can relate it to my life
for example, some places they mention and some metaphorical stuff that i wasnt even aware of before doing a google search..

Hi logikal. Welcome to the board.
Perhaps my experience will help you. I joined these boards about 3 years ago looking for people I could discuss the bible with. I was fairly new to studying the bible and there was much I didn't understand. Looking back, I realize that learning is a life long process and that coming to really understand the bible is a case of putting one brick on top of another. Look at it as a house you are building. You need to start with a foundation first.
I mean this strictly in the sense that your frame of mind for learning should be that of a child starting school and learning their ABC,s first. When you first start to read the bible then, have no concern for the things that are hard to understand at the moment, but rather concentrate on expanding on the basics. The rest will come as you grow.
When I first started, I made many errors and mistakes, but that's okay because that's how we learn. The most important element is the desire to learn. God tells us that if we seek, we shall find. So first we must seek to know. However, there is one thing that comes even before that; it is written in proverbs 9:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom......
How can one fear the Lord, if one doesn't believe there is a Lord? And will the Lord give wisdom and understanding to someone who doesn't believe he exists? The answer is no. People who don't believe in God will never have understanding of his book no matter how hard they try. So acceptance and belief and faith that God exists must come first. Faith is believing in something even though we can't see it or touch it or understand it. So what evidence is there that God exists and that we should seek him?
Obviously, you are looking for answers because you see what a mess the world is in. However, strip away the mess and look at his wonderful creation and see the evidence He gives to all men. Once you accept this, it is just the beginning of your learning. We live in a "now" society. Everybody wants what they want instantaneously and if they don't get it, their interest fails. Answers to all your questions will take a lifetime and beyond.
It is important that you understand that knowledge and understanding of the bible can only come from God. He makes you to understand it in a time when He thinks you can grasp something. Like a teacher and a pupil. If you accept the Lord, if you keep reading the bible, if you pray for understanding, you will get it over time. You won't need any man to teach you.
There are some very good people of understanding on these boards. My advice is to wade in and even though some of the waters will be too deep for you at the moment, you will learn what questions to research in the bible that seem of import to you at the moment. Ask questions and someone will point you in the right direction so that you can study them in the bible. Only the bible, Logikal. All the answers are there. They are not in any writings by man.

Hello LoGiKal,
My name is Mikie. Welcome to the group. I also come from a roman Catholic background. My wife was a lifelong Roman Catholic. 10 years ago we left the church. I now pastor a small Pentecostal church. I had lots of questions that needed to be answered along the way and found most of the answers through bible study with friends. Hope taht I can be of some assistance. One thing that I know for sure is that I was searching for something that I was not able to find through our particular local church, but by the grace of God, somehow I found what I was looking for.

Hi! I am new to this group. My name is Terri and I have been looking for an active online club to join that meets regularly to discuss organized Bible Studies. The problem that I am having is that there are plenty of Bible Study groups out there but they are not regularly active. Aren't there any Christians out there that are excited about studying God's word on a regular basis? Can anyone out there give me a hand?? Terri |
