Adnan Oktar -- aka HarunYahya is a 52-year-old Turk who has caught the attention of scientists and teachers in Europe and North America by mass-mailing them his 768-page book entitiled "Atlas of Creation".

His goal is to support Creationism with Islamic religious tenets and so far, the two fit very nicely. So much so that The Council of Europe is up in arms over this man's spreading notariety, as he tries to push his way into science classes to promote Islam and deter the Theory of Evolution.

"Well-illustrated and free of theological jargon, they preach that Islam is the one true faith and Darwinism, by undermining religious belief, has led to the discord, atheism, terrorism and extreme political ideologies plaguing the world.

Reader-friendly, the books appeal to Muslims trying to square modern science with their faith in an inerrant Koran, much like Christian evangelicals who read the Bible literally and support creationism or intelligent design theories."

It looks as though Christian Creationism will get a boost from the followers of the "one true God" who they call Allah.

This certainly complicates the mix!

It's just Islam trying to do to the rest of the world what they did to themselves in the 13th century.

During the Medieval Dark Ages Islam was going through its Golden Age--until religious leaders decided that their science was going against their religious text and clamped down on it.

This is just more of the same. It's even explicit in the statement from this guy.

Ok, I think I read that Islam was more advanced than Europe in mathematics in the 13th century.

Not just the 13th century... We actually owe a lot to Islam. While Christian Europe was wallowing in the depths of ignorance during the Dark Ages, the Muslim world prized intellect and science. While we were doing our best to burn all of the science books and literally destroy the knowledge which the ancient Greeks had discovered, the Islamic world was copying those books.

They served as a sort of life raft for ancient Greek knowledge. We literally destroyed this knowledge, and then it came back to us when the Muslims invaded Spain and brought their books with them. This injection of ancient Greek knowledge helped to kick start the Renaissance.

So we actually owe quite a bit to Islam. That being said, they shortly thereafter rejected science and plunged to their own abyss of ignorance, whereas we climbed out of ours.
