The text of Obama's speech to the Call to Renewal's Building a Covenant for a New America conference. was in 2006 but I just recently saw it on You tube yesterday. It was remarkable and even appropriate to today.
Text of this speech is available at:

I left Dobson's world when he moved to Colorado. Ad hominem attacks aside Dr. Dobson is free to live the way he wants. What he fails to understand is that American culture is far more than just Christian and that compromises are required to make civil society civil.
Frankly Dr. Dobson doesn't represent anything but the smallest fundamentalist groups within the larger Christian church and fortunately they are not the ones who determine what is Christian.
The Carter presidency was a failure for that very reason. Carter came into the presidency supported by the majority of Christians and because he failed to understand the means of compromise, almost nothing of his principles were included in the work he did. while Carter's work after the presidency is an excellent example to follow as a Christian, his work during the presidential years really suffered because of his lack of ability to compromise.
Which is ultimately what the Obama speech was all about. _________________ My boss is a Jewish carpenter.

Dobson has no Christian obligation to put his nose into civil politics, nor should Obama be invited to campaign from church podiums. Christians have a duty to refrain from being involved in the carnal affairs of this world. That doesn’t mean they can’t form opinions.
It’s interesting to note that the Obama campaign theme is “Change.” Coming from one who is a political hack of the Chicago, Democratic, political machine, this is laughable. Throughout his career, Obama has been a part of Illinois Democratic backroom politics, and has a record of being associated with con men that are on their way to the hoosegow for their wheeling and dealing.
This egocentric racist will more than likely be the next president for no other reason than he appeals to blacks voters. If a person like McCain, for instance, made the same appeal to white voters, he would be considered an extreme KKK lover deserving of a jail term.
Make no mistake, Obama has been incensed with the desire to be president from day one, and unfortunately that goal will be realized. Change? From what to what? |

So, I took the time to read the links...
While I still am very wary of Obama's policy ideas, I'm even more impressed with his common sense and inspirational aura than I was before.
As for Dobson; I think he should stick to family issues and keep his mouth shut on anything else concerning scripture and politics. _________________ JP's Mind - my blog
