True story!
Although I hear there is some finesse in how to accomplish that so you lose the right weight. You know, keep the muscle, bone density, et cetera, lose the fat.
Good work Lone! I like the veggie smoothie idea, though I have to say I wouldn't put celery in mine - nasty stuff. Cucumber is apparently a good one to add (I learned that last week) - goes good with fruit smoothies or veggie smoothies.
I'm still doing the veggies before every meal thing and it's going well - I had a salad last week with 7 different veggies in it - I was surprised to realize there were so many different kinds of veggies in my fridge. There were also sunflower seeds, raisins, craisins (cranberry raisins), pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, and some other crunchy things I don't even know what were. And cheese cubes and croûtons. I didn't even want dressing that day! I feel less healthy when I skip the veggies now too, which I'm going to nurture so that I make sure to eat veggies every time! |

I think it's great that many of us are eating more fruits and veggies these days.
It seems like the reccommended daily allowance according to the FDA has increased over the years. They now reccommend that we eat more natural foods than they used to.
I pack my lunch and breakfast a minimum of 4 days a week. I have an apple corer/cutter which I use several times a week.
I buy baby carrots and other fruits and veggies that are 'finger-food' snacks. Easy to grab and more likely to be grabbed.
I love the microwave steam bags that Glad and Zip-Loc sell. I pre-pack my fruits and veggies in them so that all I have to do is grab what I'm going to eat for the day.
I also like the salmon & tuna pouches sold on the canned meat aisles in grocery stores. You need protein. What I usually do is make a 1/2 sandwich or put some salmon or tuna on a roll and eat it with my veggies and fruit at lunch.
I eat more banana's and raisins with my breakfast and drink 2% milk with my shredded wheat or Curves cereal. I drink more water than I used to. I cut my soda consumption down years ago.
Dinner is the hard one... My hubby is a good cook. I eat pretty good at dinner and have just had to learn to start adjusting portions.
Any other helpful suggestions for quick-grab healthy snacks and meals would be appreciated....

+1 on riding the bike, lone! I love to ride mine. I wish I had more time for it.
Having bought a house last summer, I've noticed that working on the house seems to burn quite a few calories. I never would have imagined because it's not nearly as hard as running, working out or strenuous stuff like that. But after doing stuff like working on my gutters, caulking, and so on, my belt feels looser!
This year I've gotten started on some landscaping, have a long way to go yet on that, and I may put in a new patio. That should help keep me fit! Poor but fit. |

Fresh fruit & veggies are a great suggestion too. I like both, but for some reason I gravitate toward stuff that's processed or not so healthy. I'm trying to get in a better eating habit though and eat more fruit & veggies.
Not only does it keep weight off, but you feel better! |

Zathrus & Lone, in the last 1 1/2 yrs. I've went from 220 lbs to 178 lbs I only 5' 7". My pants have gone from 50" waist to 44". I went on a diet, not really giving up most things.
Just watching my portions eating less, & walking when I can.

That's fantastic Nobby!
I was doing really good when I was home..
but the last couple months out here..
I went from 179 down to 163..
couple days ago I jumped on a scale I was 170..
so hard to keep good eating habits out here.
sometimes we only eat once a day and that can be at 3am. still stocking the lean quisines and the weight watchers in the freezer. But finding time to stop and at them..
we've been busy..
In California heading back to Virginia. Then back out to California..then..maybe..hopefully..home..
Biggest problem out here isn't so much the eating as it is the exercising. If I walked as much as we drove I'd be a toothpick..
still haven't got my teeth yet. As soon as I do, I'll be able to chew on more veggies. right now it's mostly bananas and canned fruit.
I miss my smoothies!!
I'd put a blender in the truck but that could get messy..
hugs Nobby
Good Job!

I'm impressed! Great job, Nobby!
What did you find helped you the most to lose the weight? What was the hardest thing for you to give up? What proved to be the biggest temptation you had to overcome?

Luv, you know I have sugar diabetes ? well I cut out a lot of my sweets. The only time I have sweets is if my blood sugar is checking low or very low!
Otherwise I eat about anything I want, I just have to watch my portions. I can't eat as much starchy foods such as potato's because they turn to sugar, also they are fattening!
A real thing that would help me to keep it off would be exercise.
To many times I finish a meal an go set down in my big recliner. I should put on my portable oxygen tank & go for a walk. Some times this becomes a hangup because of carrying this tank, but with out it I couldn't go anywhere!
Thank God He still allows me to get out & go. There's always something to be thankful to Him about.
Lone, I can see why it would be hard to keep good eating habits out there on the road.
Lone, I bet you will be glad to get home that's a lot of miles on the road. Are you still walking when you stop!
Is this high fuel about to run you out of busness?
(((HUGS for you BOTH)))

Legs get stiff from sitting in one position for hours and hours. The majority of exercise consists of parking in a rest area and walking to the bathroom. We try to walk around some, but we've been on a tight schedule lately.
Usually (like we say) the load gets there when we get there..and usually there aren't too many delivery set dates. (flatbed and stepdeck trailers are more flexible time scedules than dry vans and reefer trailers). But this last time out, everything is HOT, got to have it yesterday..so we've been flying..
Fuel..
It cost us $610.00 yesterday to fill up in California.
average 4.99-5.03 a gallon.
We're trying real hard to be careful with spending. Maintenence is on a "as needed" basis only.
Going home is good, we get rest, but we can't pay the bills sitting still either. Ten more months of truck payments then it might get easier.
I don't think it will put us out of business as long as we keep the speed down to 55. Conserves fuel.
cut back on the air conditioning when possible, using outside air..just common sense stuff.
But it's still tough..
have to run faster to make more money, the faster we go the more it costs..catch 22..lol..
Flagstaff Arizona today. Nice, sunny, warm..
real pretty day.
Priceless..
hugs Nobby,

Hello Lone where ever you are!
Sorry the gas prices are hitting you and hubby so hard.
I drive an Impala. I put just under 16 gallons in my tank the other day and it cost me $60.
I'm trying to work harder on the weight loss issue now that we have warmer weather.
I am outside working in the yard, hiking, walking, jogging, biking and going to the river a lot more now so I guess I'll just have to 'weight and see' if my dietary changes and my changes in my activity level will help.
Love you guys (Nobby/Lone).

Hi Luv,
Texas..almost Oklahoma..
I love it when the nice weather comes around and you can get outside and move around. Lived in New Hampshire for about 10 years..winters can be rough..
Fuel is going down as we move east..down to 4.43 a gallon..whew..I remember when diesel was less then gas, and gas was less then $1..
either prices flew up real fast or I'm getting old real quick..lol
I'm determined one of thes days to go home and make a garden..probably be too old to dig by then..lol..
My bike is probably covered in cobwebs..again..
and it will take me weeks to learn how to ride it ..again..

disgusting isn't it?..
hang in there. Things can only get so bad before there's no other way to go but better..
hugs
