Ok, so let me ask you this. What is the established word limit on posts? I agree that if posts are too long, people don't usually read them anyway, but is there guideline for this?
Because sometimes posts can be very long, and extremely boring. And other times they can be extremely long, yet fascinating. So is it a matter of length? Interest? What?
(Just looking for clarification here.)

Lately, I have had some thoughts on the disappearing acts of some. If we truly believe we are a family and kin in the body of Christ, why would we just leave without a word to our family members? We wouldn't do it to our flesh and blood kin. So, it cuts two ways. There are those who really do consider us a cyber family and those who form no true attachment and to them we are just faceless names for awhile. And I had this thought about you, Yehu, and others who have suddenly disappeared. So, at times communications do break down all the way around. |
I always wonder when some people don't come on as frequenty as they normally do because I get worried something bad happened to them and how would the rest of us ever know?
(Sorry if I'm responding to posts considered to be 'old' by now, but I myself have been gone unexpectedly all week and I'm trying to catch up). |

Well you sent me a PM which I refused to answer.
So I have no idea how you feel about me! But that's not important. Not as for as the rules go. Of course I don't wan't others to have bad thoughts of me.

There is none!
| Quote: | | I agree that if posts are too long, people don't usually read them anyway, but is there guideline for this? | You are right most very long posts don't get read unless they are extremely interesting.
Long posts & flooding the boards with posts, are both against the rules. "Guidlines" Hmmm....well that would be me & my mod's, if we feel that you are overdoing it you will be reminded!

Well eleven first off, who's to deside which is boring & which is fascinating? Long is long, medium posts you can get a max of 15 on a page! You can fill a page quite easely with 1 post usually cut/paste of the enternet!
When you do this your page is thee times the length of a page with 15 posts!
OK, clarifation. To many posts disrupts threads & many times hijacks the thread.
Long posts bog down the thread & causees your CP to creep & that gets irritating! These are things you ask not to do from time to time. You only get in trouble if you pay no attention or continue to not except what was said by my mod's or myself.

If they read the rules they would know this. They can still
open this forum as a guest, & read the rules!
No I haven't notified them.
Hope this helps, & we can put this behind us,

It takes a little common sense to tell when posts are very wordy but saying little as opposed to being long because they have much to say.
And it takes a little comon sense to tell when posts are "flooding the board" and when someone is just a prolific poster who makes solid contributions to a lot of the discussions going on.
Most of us seem to have that much common sense. I think the mods certainly do. Usually (there are a couple of exceptions I can think of) it's not hard to tell the difference.
Another comment:

I sometimes wonder about ol' Pastor NB/John the Babtist from the Viewpoints board. I didn't agree with him on anything, but I certainly hope he's doing well. I know he was an elderly man. |

SS, that is completely true, but I wonder the next time it comes time to pay the dues on this board, if the Admin could just get by telling them that! |

Geez Nobby, you make it sound like I was in some way disrespectful or hateful. Was I? I only contacted you for guidance. So sorry, I won't do that anymore.

Never entered my mind. Don't understand why you are even going there.

Ok, then how can someone be banned for posting answers that are too long? I don't understand this.

You just got done telling me there is no limit, yet now you are saying it is against the rules and the limit is up to the discretion of the mods? Which is it?

Nope not contesting that. Just don't see how this is relevant in any way. Could you tell me? |

Nope not contesting that. Just don't see how this is relevant in any way. Could you tell me? | JP has the habit of getting around what God says by using some sort of human logic.
It is hard to pin him down to what God actually means.
Its a little game we play.
For example: I talk about the 7th day sabbath to be observed by Christians, and he will go to great lenghts to show that the 7th day sabbath is not called Saturday in the Bible, which is a true point. |

There are some things that are up to the discretion/judgment of the Moderators. We have been given guidelines to follow and yes, some of them are not as well-defined as others. I do know that the Moderators have warned some about the length of their posts. They have been asked to shorten their posts. Atoz was, by his own admission in at least one post asked to shorten his responses.
Do you really want the Mod's to set a post limit (ie: 1,000 word maximum or 5 paragraphs or less.....)?
I think they thought we were adults and could discern what is too much. The rules work just great for the majority of posters on this forum.
Luv

Luv | The example of Jesus Christ was to not talk to much, BUT to give information out that makes a person think, about what few words He did say. |

Amen. If people don't try to purposefully push the limits and explore the boundaries of the rules, then the rules work just fine 99% of the time. |

Amen. If people don't try to purposefully push the limits and explore the boundaries of the rules, then the rules work just fine 99% of the time. | And that thougth is what brought ALL the pain and sufferings into this present world !!
Adam & Eve had absolutely no idea that their disregard for the 'rules' would bring every kind of misery humans have ever known !!! |

Actually no!!!! I would hate that. But here's the problem -
If you are going to ban someone because you claim their posts are too long, then there must be some sort of established limit. Otherwise how do you decide that, and how is it fair? Let me give you an example:
Let's say you and I are fascinated with the topic of Genesis. And you post what you know, and I post what I know, and it takes up half the page. To you and I, this is wonderful! However, to those who have absolutely no interest in Genesis whatsoever, this is boring and extreme. So you or I are warned to shorten our posts.
1) Is this fair to you, because you want to share your knowledge, and I would love to hear it. However moderator Y thinks it's too long.
2)We continue our conversation, but now moderator Y is upset, and bans you or I, and now we have no way to get back on this board. You just suddenly disappear. Is that fair?
3) Ok, being the stubborn A-hole that I am, I say, ok.....I get it now. I will keep my posts to one or two paragraphs. Do I get the consideration of moderator Y to let me back on? How do I contact them since I can't sign in?
4) I could give you and everyone else here example after example of posts that are EXTREMELY long and contain nothing but bickering , arguing, and name calling about someone else, and it goes on for PAGES!!!!!!!!!! Yet someone will be flagged if they deviate just a little bit from the posted topic. Is that fair??????
All I'm saying is, if you are going to have rules, fine. But they should apply to EVERYONE, posters and moderators alike. It is TOTALLY unjust to ban someone for a reason that doesn't appy to everyone because if you do that, you are then able to ban someone just because you don't like their style, or theology or their popularity........whatever.
I am more than willing to abide by whatever rules are established. But either enforce them for everyone, or abolish them because it is wrong to apply them only when it is a matter of personal preference. |
