What's the final scoop on this? I had read that the Catholic church does not allow festivals during Holy Week - and that this year because Easter is so early, St. Patrick's Day fell during Holy Week. So I thought the official view of the Vatican was that it was not to be celebrated.

Is that true or do I have the details wrong?

Actually, this is true. But I saw on TV where the different diocese stated that they were going to leave it up to the individual.

Some interesting facts about St. P though -
Saint Patrick was not an Irish native. He was born in Britain.

Also, it is a myth that St. Patrick drove all the snakes out of Ireland. Snakes were not indigenous to Ireland.

Seems there is a bunch of Blarney concerning this holiday. Laughing
