The King James version of the Bible originated in 1611 by the English King James. Who was King James? Why would He as King of England bring about a Bible in the first place. If my history is correct many people left England around that time because of religious persecution by this King who required all to belong to one church, the church of England. So to me, at least, this would mean this version of the Bible could be just a wee bit biased.
The newer versions of the Bible include the discoveries made in recent years that shed new light on the Bible. The Dead Sea Scrolls for example had the complete Old Testament but excluded the book of Ester. Why would you want to read and outdated version. |

I have a few different versions of the Bible, but the one that sits here beside my computer is 'The New American Bible'. This was given to me as a gift by my daughter and because it is a Catholic version it collected dust on the book shelf for many years. One day I picked it up and began to read it and haven't stopped reading it since. It is easy to read and understand and all I have to do is keep in mind it is a Catholic version and remember what the Catholic church teaches and it's a good thing. The Bible that is, not the teachings of the Catholic church.
I also have gotten into the Gospel of Thomas, which gives you only the sayings of Yeshua and gives you a better idea of how He thought. I can almost hear the saddness in Him because no one was listening to Him.
There's also the Pershitta, which is the original, written in Aramaic and supposedly handed to the Church of the East by an Apostle. Unfortunately there are many different versions of the Pershitta on line, so it's necessary to be careful what you read. There is a copy of the Pershitta on line written in the Aramaic with English on top of the Aramaic words. I have found this to be completely different from most Bible translations of today. |
