I consider the comment "I hope you burn in hell" completely inappropriate, no matter who says it and to whom. I am unclear whether it should be a violation of board rules. I think it is worse than rude.

I must respectfully disagree. I was raised by my parents to avoid rudeness to all people not matter what. An age of manners in those days ......

Sorry about the flu! It is going around!
U must be feeling better.
Since you respectfully disagree, you are clean and healthy every whit!smile

I was raised the same way: which is why I am still so courteous and clean and last to be the first to be rude and dirty.smile

BUT, since my mom especially allowed me to hate dirt and hate rude bwoys since she hated them, I was mostly courteous in the most discourteous manner and very clean in the most dirty attitude towards those who were discourteously dirtying up the floor I had just cleaned by walking across it---and so cd never see my problem.
Then when I got married, my wife wd talk about my manner!
I didn't know what she was talking about!
What manner? I live in a manor!smile
Your tone of voice.
What's tone?
I am courteous at all times.

Then, I learned about Love!
Uh oh!
Ah!
I was dirty-mindedely clean in Hate of dirt and so was always overcleaning and forgot that it is pretty hard to keep dirt clean, and what is the sense of clean floors if nobody cd walk on them and if everyone was on pins and needles around me.smile
I was courteous in a most rude manner, and so forgot that I was the rudest guy in the bldg, and actually made others rude when they picked up my rude vibrations! Song coming on! Beachbwoys!!smile

So to cut a long story short: The dirtiest rudest most hateful person is need of the courtesy of the cleanest and purest Love even as we also alternately show him courtesy in Love followed by rudity in Love, then back again to mercy in Love followed again by forwardness in Love!

In Love of all Dirt there is and all Rude Boys there are, including the Dearthy Earth and Rudy-ard--the Dirtyard!--Kipling, smile

ps...i searched the rules...the remark was not a threat, or an insult...

just an expression of how that poster feels about those who disagree with him....

it would seem, the rules may still be intact and unviolated...but the comment was...

far out and surprising coming from one who believes in hell and knows what his beliefs entail for those that go there...

This line has managed to get two warnings from me.
I won't give another. As christians were supposed to love & forgive not to "hope someone burns in hell"
Just my 2c,
Nobby

Hmmmmmmm Thanx for all you do, Nobby.

But Nobby, I never complained and the remark was not offensive to me even tho it was directed at.....smile

So please be merciful in Love to him: I know you will be!

How about 70 times 7, Matthew 18,
rather than 3 times 1?smile

And how about some moderator writing the writer and engaging him in some 'Juan on Juan' [smile] about him loving and respecting himself as we respect him--if he wants to stay on here!smile
That Love alone wd change him to Love or 'drive' him away---another way of saying he wd run away or flee from the Love he does not want to be given to him by others nor to give himself.

Praying in Love for you and all the mods!

with Love and R,

I agree, I'd rather see it coming than have it sneak up behind me..LOL..

If you close the door on everyone that offends you though, how are they ever going to learn any differently?
We all offend and we are all offended in one way or another. It's just how it comes across..subtely or bold faced.

We always have the right to "ignore" or not respond to someones post if we don't like what we hear.
And maybe that treatment alone is enough to make some just "poof" dissappear.

That's why we're here you know..to sharpen our skills at learning to love the most unloveable people in the world..
because they need it the most.. Wink

I hug em anyways whether they like it or not..LOL..

and they don't realize that while they are spewing out condemnations at others, it only reflects on the one who's doing the spewing.. Wink
and so find themselves condemned of the very same thing they accuse others of doing.
which usually irritates them twice as much because they are perfect and we are all guilty..until they look in the mirror.. Laughing

Least when you see it coming you can turn the other way. Or stand and defend your position. You have a choice.
my 2 cents..
hugs

Well, that's great in theory, but the problem is people don't just ignore it, but retaliate with something nasty themselves, and then the mods have to deal with a fight, get stoned themselves, get blamed when they ignore it and get blamed when they don't ignore it. All the time everyone pointing the finger at someone else.

You will notice that some people in this thread, for instance, who are unwilling to ignore and forgive, have taken the occassion to get in their little digs.

I guess I missed something somewhere. My purposes for engaging such conversation was to try and get the poster to see the “disconnect” (that the New Covenant DOES preach we should love our neighbor and not want anyone to burn in hell), not to get anyone booted.
Yehu, by "they" I meant the people I listed immediately after, not the poster. Sorry for not being more clear in my sentence structure. As far as I know, no one had been booted yet.

Actually, I thought the title of this thread was interesting (usually when admin posts a thread, it's interesting stuff) and started reading not knowing at first that it pertained to a thread on the Debate forum.
I did locate the thread. It was another thread I hadn't been following. I found it and skimmed through some of it. I will most likely stay out of that one though.

Yehu, the poster was not booted!

Atoz, it nice that it didn't bother you but it bothered me.
I didn't say that I didn't love him. That's not why I called him on this he has offended several by his remarks!
This is Nobby the board admin talking to you now.
So the warning stands.
Please let the mod's & myself do our job! Shocked

Hi, Nobby,

Sorry, man, I apologize: I did mean to be holding your hands up and making your jobs as moderators easier since the remark about going to hell was directed at me!

I am with Ana on this since it is an attack or offensive remark aimed at the poster (vs someone attacking a post or idea). I don't see how the context could possibly matter unless it was phrased thusly:

"Is it wrong to say to someone 'I hope you burn in h*ll?"'
