I don't have any Scripture to back this one, but whole-heartedly belive this because music had me by the throat for many years.

Music is very powerful. Its made prejudice, sex, hatred, murder, greed, pride, and many other things acceptable to me in the past and it made me feel good.

Music is very powerful. Its made understanding, patience, love, life, giving, humility, and many other things acceptable to me as of recent and it makes me feel good.

Music makes people feel good for the most part, but whats the message within that makes you feel good?

Does it make you feel good because "He still calls me son" or because you got a "Straight 28, full O Z"

Just like any of God's creations or ideas (aside from Jesus hence his sacrifice saving our souls), It can be corrupted. Its up to us to find that inner meaning of the music and use our own judgement if God would approve.

And on the 'Christian Rock' or 'Rock' in general being bad from another post -

~Psalms~

33:2 Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an
instrument of ten strings.

33:3 Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise.

This sounds like 'rock' to me, but with the right message. Smile

Yes, indeed. Music is a powerful influential tool. It can make you angry, sad, happy. It can make you cry, laugh, curse. It can improve or help destroy your attitude. You are what you eat whether it be spiritual food or something tangible you partake of.

Many songs have lyrics that are easy to remember, easy to relate to and a pleasing melody. I sometimes find myself singing songs from the radio that are not particularly good songs because I get caught up in the melody.

But think about the message some of these songs send.

Here are a couple of good examples:

Keep On Rolling With The Flow

Once was a thought inside my head
Fore I'd reach thirty I'd be dead
Now somehow on and on I go-o-o
I keep on rolling with the flow

Folks said that I would change my mind
I'd straighten up and do just fine
Ahh, but I still love rock and ro-o-oll
I keep on rolling with the flow

I don’t guide my age on raising kicks
I’m raising hell just like I did
I’ve got a lot of crazy friends
And they forgive me of my sins

Some might be calling me a bum
But I’m still out there having fun
And Jesus loves me, yes, I kno-o-ow
So, I keep on rolling with the flow
(keep on rolling with the flow)

I don’t guide my age on raising kicks
But I’m raising hell just like I did
I’ve got a lot of crazy friends
And they forgive me of my sins

Can't take it with you when you’re gone
But I want enough to get there on
And I ain’t ever growing o-o-old
So, I keep on rolling with the flow
(keep on rolling with the flow)

I ain’t ever growing o-o-old
If I keep on rolling with the flow
(Keep on rolling, keep on rolling)

Keep on rolling with the flow
(Keep on rolling, keep on rolling)

Keep on rolling with the flow
(Keep on rolling, keep on rolling)

Before He Cheats
Right now he's probably slow dancing with a bleach blonde tramp,
and she's probably getting frisky...
right now, he's probably buying her some fruity little drink cause she can't shoot whiskey...

Right now, he's probably up behind her with a pool-stick, showing her how to shoot a combo...

And he don't know...

That I dug my key into the side of his pretty little souped up 4 wheel drive,
carved my name into his leather seats...
I took a Louisville slugger to both headlights,
slashed a hole in all 4 tires...

Maybe next time he'll think before he cheats.

Right now, she's probably up singing some
white-trash version of Shania karaoke..
Right now, she's probably saying "I'm drunk"
and he's a thinking that he's gonna get lucky,
Right now, he's probably dabbing on 3 dollars worth of that bathroom polo
And he don't know...

That I dug my key into the side of his pretty little souped up 4 wheel drive,
carved my name into his leather seats,
I took a Louisville slugger to both headlights,
slashed a hole in all 4 tires...

Maybe next time he'll think before he cheats.

I might've saved a little trouble for the next girl,
Cause the next time that he cheats...

Oh, you know it won't be on me!

Ohh... not on me...
Cause I dug my key into the side of his pretty little souped up 4 wheel drive,
carved my name into his leather seats...
I took a Louisville slugger to both headlights,
slashed a hole in all 4 tires...

Maybe next time he'll think before he cheats.

Ohh.. Maybe next time he'll think before he cheats...

Ohh... before he cheats...

Luv

I know some people have mentioned that they don't like certain kinds of music like rap, rock, or hip hop, but how do you feel about using these types of music for the younger generations?

Hi Maverick1337

Here is a Scripture, that you might be able to us: (2 Kings 3:10-15)

This is an account, where a good king(Jehoshaphat), joined up with a bad king(Jehoram), to go into battle, and found themselves in trouble. So Jehoshaphat suggested that they call upon a prophet of God, the ask the LORD for instructions.

But when the prophet(Elisha), came down to help them, he had some trouble, because of the presence of this wicked king, so he calls for a minstrel. And when the minstrel started playing(a Godly song), the LORD came upon him(Elisha).

i.e. (Godly music, invites the Holy Spirit!)

--------------------------------------------------

Also, I have found that secular music effects different Christians differently, because of their backgrounds. Those Christians who had listened to it, while living a wicked life before they got saved, do not like secular music. While others, aren’t bothered at all by rock and roll.

I remember burning all my records, as a young Christian, only to wish I had them, later on, when I realized, that there wasn’t anything wrong with them(for me).
