the -ist
the : god/deity
-ist : adherent or advocate of said system
=one who advocates a god or deity
a- : not
a- the -ist
=one who does not advocate a god or deity
I guess that's how I'd define it.
Simply put, an atheist is someone who lacks belief in gods. _________________ Truth doesn't care about theology, and theology doesn't care about truth. |

Yes. An brings up Dawkins interesting point: We are ALL atheists in one respect or another. For instance, Christians are atheists in regards to Zeus or Thor.
As Dawkins puts it - atheists just believe in one less God than Christians do. _________________ Cybermonsters (Most Beloved Admin)

Or three less anyway _________________ When Science was in its crib, Religion tried to strangle it. When Science was in its infancy, Religion tried to abuse it. Now that Science is grown up, Religion wants to be in its good graces.
Theology is philosophy/ethics for people who already know what conclusion they want to come to. |

One of the funny side-effects of this is that atheists don't even have to go out and find any original material to use against the different religions: Catholics, Protestants, Muslims, Jews, and all of the other religions out there have produced some great thinkers who did a very good job developing arguments against all of the other religions. Christian scholars in particular have all sorts of theological arguments against everyone but themselves.
To find material against any one religion, all an atheist has to do is go see what thinkers from all of the other religions have been writing for hundreds of years. _________________ "Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction."
