Wal-Mart expanding in-store health clinics
The retailer plans to roll out 400 clinics at its stores that will be jointly branded with local medical groups.
Wal-Mart Stores will open its first in-store medical clinics under its own brand name after leasing space in dozens of stores to outside companies that operate the quick-service health stops.
The world's largest retailer said last week it will open The Clinic at Wal-Mart as a joint venture with local hospital systems in Atlanta, Dallas and Little Rock, Ark., starting in April.
Wal-Mart is among several supermarket and drugstore chains that in the past couple of years have begun opening store-based health clinics, which are staffed mostly by nurse practitioners or physician assistants and offer quick service for routine conditions from colds and bladder infections to sunburns.

There's a lot of truckdrivers out there that don't have the opportunity to go to their doctor's anytime they get sick or have a problem. But a lot of wal-marts allow trucks to park and go shopping at them.
Maybe this will be a good way for us drivers to get the health-care or advice we need out on the road..
I think this is a good idea..
what do you think?

Maybe...
My first thought, though, was there will be a lot of sick people wandering around the store who could be seriously ill carrying the norovirus or something and passing along illnesses to unsuspecting shoppers.
Will the clinics be set apart? Will they be closed off completely by glass panes? Will they be close to the pharmacies or the entrances?
Just some basic questions..

I think it's a great idea...for some reason, we've allowed the medical industry to decide that everyone needs to go to a hospital...
I would say our country does a good job at Emergency Care (saving life, limb, eyesight) and Routine Care (to include cancer, chronic disease, wellness stuff)...but we're terrible at Emergent or Urgent Care....virus stuff, deep cuts that need stitches, etc, etc...
as for sick folks wandering the store and passing that on to others....you think that isn't happening now? |
