I need help to stop smoking, it is driving me nuts. I been asking God to help me on this and I'm getting upset with Him because I have no answer from Him yet. I gave it to Him the best I know how, can't He just pull it out of me so I can be set free? I want to get into ministry but I refuse to until this is out of my life, God bless.

I am not an expert on this field, but both my brother and my sister smokes. My advice to you is try dipping the filter end in vinegar before smoking. According to my theory the taste should let you smoke longer on one cigarette so you breath in less smoke. Now try to smoke as little as possible per week, remembering the taste might help.
::::::::::::::::::::
God WILL be with you since you are seeking Him. Maybe He wants to delay your plans, because he wants to tell you something, like on this board.
::::::::::::::::::::
My prayers are still with you.

Hi Doug!

First of all, your first goal is NOT to stop smoking.
Smoking is your crutch.
Wd you take away a lame man's crutch before his legs were strong enough to walk on?
No?
Well that is exactly how God feels.
He wants you to keep your crutch!
So please relax.
Ok?
Breathe a sigh of relief!smile

Your first goal is see that God loves u as a smoker!

Yes, he does!

God loves sinnners of which smokers are one. John 3:16

Right?

See Matthew 5:45: and substitute 'the smokers and non-smokers' for 'the just and unjust!'
So guess what?

That's your first sin ---in your heart---to hate you as a smoker.
See?

It is a sin for you to hate yourself as a smoker
or to hate other smokers
or hate YOU as any words.
see?

So, can you say the words:

I love myself as a smoker?

That's what God says:
I love Doug as a smoker and as a nonsmoker.

So shd you love you as God loves you?
If you feel like crying, please do!
See Ps 103:13.
When last have you pitied you and or cried for you?
That's another thing God loves to do: pity you as Himself!
Do you love to pity yourself?
Hmmmmmmmmm
That's God's unconditional Love for you as smoker and nonsmoker, as right and as wrong, as pitiful and as unpitiful, and as all words and their opposites.
Now see Matthew 12:34-37.

Without that Unconditional Love,
you can and could never
get the Smoke of Hate out of your heart, which Hate is what got you smoking in the first place,
you can and cd never really quit smoking,
and
could only be the WORST nonsmoker to other smokers even IF you cd quit since that Smoking Hatred in your heart for yourself and others wd still be burning in place!
see?

So God is loving you as Himself to get you to love YOU just as God loves u: 1 john 4:19. John 15:9.

Then when you cimmit to loving you as all words God loves you as,
then you repent of the sin of ever hating you as smoker or as any words you USED to hate you as BEFORE you ever started smoking in the first place.
see acts 2:38-40.

Feel better?

Now as you give yourself the Love that God hs been and is giving you as a smoker, you will find that you can give that up in no time with NO sweat!
Why?
You were smoking to be loved, since smoking makes you look classy, sophisticated and cool and you were mistaught to hate yourself and others as unclassy, uncool and unspophisticated,--

and now,
since you get your Love upfront before you smoke and even if you are NOT cool and classy, and even if U continue smoking----the only diff now being that you KNOW that with all your lung cancer God wd still lvoe you!

But why go smoking and for lung cancer when you now know that God loves u and always loved you BEFORE you ever started to smoke and even wheile you were smoking?
Of course:
Now that you love you as a smoker,
U don't want to and now you don't need to.
So you are freed up!

Want more?smile
Or is that enough for you to go all the rest of the way on?
Let me know.

The more includes how God smokes,
how breathing is smoking,
why smoke from barbques is the saem as cigarette smoke,
why 2nd hand smoke is NOT a sin,
why firemen shd still come to your burning home and risk smoke-inhalation and death by same,
and etc.

By the way, God does not mind you getting angry with Him as long as u get angry with him IN LOVE! Eph 4:26.

And the reason God is not answering you is because He thinks he told you this before in Matthew 22:36-40 especially verses 38 and 39 and 7:12!smile

With the PerFUME of Love for you as a smoker, which Perfumed Love rises to God as inspiring incense and as sweet smoke of a Love-burnt offering, smile

Hi Douglas. I agree with atoz.
Quote:
but I refuse to until this is out of my life, God bless.

Your motives may be honourable but perhaps, if God has called you, your refusal is not wise.
You see smoking as a weakness. Fair enough, so do I (sometimes).
I used to be extremely judgemental towards christians who smoked. God knocked that out of me in His powerful and unique way. You will have to put up with people like my 'old' self but you will attract others who will be pleased to see that you too are human and that you can accept them as they are.

Above all, be honest about it. Don't try to hide it.

Yes, Doug,

I agree with Wilber!

Preach in Love for sinners while a smoker to show them that the REAL sin is Hate for self as any words or names they still hate themselves as!

That's will revolutionize your church: make it abuzz with Love as people begin to realise how much Hate they still have in their hearts --for themselves!
sigh

with Love,

Why?

I mean why do you want to get into the ministry. Perhaps God doesn't want you there and so isn't answering your concerns about smoking since You put this as a test to God.

If GOD calls you to the ministry, then smoking shouldn't be a problem. But if YOU are calling yourself to the ministry, then it might be.

I've seen too many Christians enter into the ministry as a means for self validation - an Identity Pretense.

In that Jesus Himself never differentiated between clergy and laity, it may be good to look more closely at one's motives.

May God lead,
Yehu

If you really want to quit, you will. It's very difficult. I quit a few times. The last time was about 10 years ago. I haven't picked one up in all that time.

I can give you a few tips that helped me. I don't know if they will help you but here they are:

1) Most people say 'go cold turkey.' I couldn't do that so I cut down a certain amount each day until I was smoking about 3 a day. At that point, I quit.

2) Don't go to break with people who you smoked with. Bring a book to read. Take a walk. Bring carrot sticks or celery or something to munch on to take the edge off.

3) Stay away from people who smoke for awhile. Trust me, this is important until you are stronger.

4) Realize that you may be in situations where you are tempted for a while. Ride it out. If you can do this for those occasional 10-15 minute periods as they occur, it will get easier.

5) Don't fall in to the 'just one drag' trap. It will snare you eventually if you allow it to.

If you make it two weeks, the worst is behind you.
If you make it three weeks, you can do it. Keep your resolve strong. I'm rooting for you. You're making a good decision health-wise. I watched someone I love die from emphysema and leukemia. She was tied to her oxygen so no longer had her freedom and she was very sick and no longer had reasonably good health. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

I hope one or two of the tips here help you.

Luv

Hi. Just as you have prayed to stop smoking I'll pray for you.

Beyond that I will only say don't stop trying. Sometimes people think they have failed because they try to stop and then start again. But many people who have trouble and finally quit do so after several "failed" attempts.

Smoking is a killer. My thoughts are with you in your battle.

Douglas, I won't say to much about my self. I smoked for 30+ yrs. Well I tried & tried to quit even tho I was a christian then, the water finally came to a boil! I got slapped with COPD. I was 53 years old & would have to be on oxygen 24 hrs a day for the rest of my life! I'm 71yrs now! That's enough for now. Maybe later I will tell of my failing "Heart Muscle" & my "Miraculous Healing!"
The fervernt prayer of a righteous man, availeth much.
There is much power in prayer! Still praying for you Douglas.
God Bless you! Amen!

God Bless you, Nobby! I thought about mentioning your situation but I didn't want to step on your toes.

I lost my mother in law to emphysema & leukemia at 76.

Doug, you are in my thoughts and I will pray for you too. I know how difficult what you are facing is but it's worth sticking with it. It's worth all I went through to quit.

God Bless you too!

Dear Doug,

You're in my prayers. Try not to beat yourself up too much but remember always that God loves you and meets you where you are now.

God is for you entirely, accepting you as you are.

He will help you.

"The Spirit, too, comes to help us in our weakness, for when we cannot choose words in order to pray properly, it is the Spirit who expresses our plea in a way that could never be put into words"(Rom 8:26-27).

Love, Di
