That, in itself, seemed to show me that there definitely was an ulterior motive. So much, that I had to ask what the motive was.
Then came the "you folks" comment.
And, though I surely may be incorrect, their questioning and latter comment seemed to imply that they did not enjoy the song... and that was their true motive in repeatedly questioning those who said they enjoyed it. Hence, the "Devil's Advocate" label... though I did not mean it in a negative way... but a truthful way. |

I will admit, though, that I found the song to be the typical parotted stuff that passes as worship music these days. But that is only my opinion, and one that I have no desire to thrust upon others. |

Jacinth, do you know what an "ulterior motive" is?
So, yes, your questioning was under the premise of an ulterior motive (you did not appreciate the song). And so yes, you were playing Devil's Advocate by questioning and requestioning the motive of others as to why they enjoyed the song.
It is no biggie... for sure... but it is funny to me. |

Jacinth,
to be fair, I do understand your position.
| Yet, as a music producer myself, I wrote: | | A song has several properties that together will make the song as a whole, pleasing to the ear of the listener who enjoys it. I enjoy the song as a whole. |
One of those "several" properties that I mentioned above is the "delivery" of the artist. From what I've heard from Chris Tomlin, his delivery is mostly on-point. Meaning, that he delivers his vocals in a very believable way.
In my opinion, there is not much better than an artist who can sing a song with such conviction in their delivery, that the listener can believe that the artist is singing truthfully about their feelings. Stevie Wonder is one of those such fantastic artists. |

ulerior motive - underlying motive: a second and underlying motive, usually a selfish or dishonorable one
No, my hekkling friend, I had no ulterior motive in asking you what you find appealing about the song. Why you insist on questioning my motives is not clear to me.

You are welcome to your opinion. I have my own opinion, and it does not line up with yours. But what would life be like if we all saw things the same way? Boring, I'd imagine. |

Thanx for everything!
Oh? That was nothing!
Nothing is very big in Hate of the something we call nothing:
Thanx for nothing!
Huh! That's all the thanx I get for everything I have done?

Uh huh.
I knew that Jacinth person had an ulterior motive! I knew it!
I believed, and so I spoke!
Oh, I know my God is good! I know it!
I TOLD YOU ALL THAT JACINTH HAD AN ULTERIOR MOTIVE GOING ON!
And now it comes to light that he was none other than my old adversary, the dreaded "apoc"!
