the -ist

the : god/deity

-ist : adherent or advocate of said system

=one who advocates a god or deity

a- : not

a- the -ist

=one who does not advocate a god or deity

I guess that's how I'd define it.

Simply put, an atheist is someone who lacks belief in gods.

Yes. An brings up Dawkins interesting point: We are ALL atheists in one respect or another. For instance, Christians are atheists in regards to Zeus or Thor.

As Dawkins puts it - atheists just believe in one less God than Christians do.

One of the funny side-effects of this is that atheists don't even have to go out and find any original material to use against the different religions: Catholics, Protestants, Muslims, Jews, and all of the other religions out there have produced some great thinkers who did a very good job developing arguments against all of the other religions. Christian scholars in particular have all sorts of theological arguments against everyone but themselves.

To find material against any one religion, all an atheist has to do is go see what thinkers from all of the other religions have been writing for hundreds of years.
