I am new to Christianity and need help learning. I want to be able to carry on a conversation about God and know what Im talking about. So I found this great online class for learning the Bible.
So this site has a break down of the bible to where you read small sections every day and a year later you have read the hole bible. It is not jumping all over the B either so you wont get to confused. For instance the first month you read all of Genesis, Job and the start of Exodus.
So I started it yesterday by reading Gen 1-2, and today by reading Gen 3-5.... And I already have questions and thing to ponder over. So I was wondering if there are any other new Christians interested in doing this with me so we can discuss it as we go along.
Thanx |

Hi Barina. In my opinion, this way of studying presents a bit of a problem. The reason is that one cannot answer questions about particular verses without referring to verses throughout the whole bible.
It's my advice that you first read all of the bible and save your questions till then. Some of them may begin to be answered just in becoming familiar with the scriptures. On your first time thru, you may want to skip long lists of names and geneologies as this will not be particularly pertinent to the basics.
In the meantime, just reading what others have posted on this site will also add to your knowledge of what the bible says.
If you are not familiar with the bible, it would be difficult to even answer your questions as answering them requires you to be somewhat familiar with what the rest of the bible says.
Consider yourself to be a sponge right now. It's like starting school. We don't start in university, we start in pre-school. So you must at least read the primer first and not concern yourself with understanding all of it as you go.

Please ask your questions....and we will try to answer them.
Jusr remember that no one book of the Bible of itself, has all the answers.
For example: the subject of Jesus Christ 2nd coming is mentioned in many different books of the Bible, both in the New Testament, as well as in the Old Testament. |

It would also be wise to learn the 10 commandments as found in Exodus 20:3-17.
19:16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
19:17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? [there is] none good but one, [that is], God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
Revelation 22:14 Blessed [are] they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
1 John 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
1 John 2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
2:5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. |

Hello Barina, I would suggest you get a book called Living By the Book By Howard Hendricks
The sub tittle is The Art and Science of Reading the Bible.
It is a great study help that will help you to understand what you are reading.
God Bless |
