binding the strong man and plundering his goods..
reminded me of Samson about them plowing with his heifer.
They never would have gotten the answer to the riddle if they didn't threaten his wife and her family, causing her to push him into giving up the answer.
The rope couldn't do it, but her crying and begging sure did..
just thinkin..

When I read about the work he (Dennis Rader) had done in his church and how everyone was shocked and no one could believe that he could have done these crimes, I too was shocked and saddened. Right after I read about these crimes, I picked up my bible and started reading. I came across the following scriptures:
Matthew 12:31
Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
Matthew 12:32
And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.
I immediately thought of Dennis Rader and wondered if these scriptures and the one in Mark might apply to him and people like him. People who profess to know God and Christ but who lead a secret double life and use the holy names of God and Jesus to get away with crimes and, in the process, hurt the spirits of people who truly do love and believe in God and Jesus.
(Mark 3:29
But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation).
Are these scriptures referring to blatant hypocrisy?
What other sins besides blasphemy are considered sins against the Holy Spirit? What does Mark 3:29 mean when it says 'in danger of eternal damnation? If a sin against the Holy Spirit is something that is 'never forgiven,' isn't eternal damnation a given or am I reading this scripture wrong?

I was always confused about the meaning of the word blasphemy that we find in scripture until one day I remember I came across an old latin definition that meant "to hold cheap". I pondered it for a long time and realized what it meant thereafter and found it fit scripture perfectly. So blasphemy means to hold something of value at a lesser value. For example if we say that God can't do something that He actually can do - then we talk in a blasphemous manner because we devalue what God is actually capable of doing. Anytime we promote God in a manner that lessens or cheapens His message, power, character, etc... then we commit blasphemy.
Now indeed the scriptures say that there is no forgiveness for blasphemy of the Holy Spirit but that doesn't mean someone will not be forgiven ever. I like to compare this to being thrown in the mud. As long as your in the mud your never going to be clean. But once you no longer are in the mud then you can be clean. So if someone is committing blasphemy of the Holy Spirit then they are blaphseming the very thing that would provide the forgiveness so obviously they can't therefore be forgiven until they stop blaspheming. Consider my analogy of the mud again. If one is against the water then obviously they can't get clean if they are against the water. Once they accept the water then they can get clean.
I hope this helps.

Paul; Thanks for your response.
I have done some additional thinking about this, pondering the real meaning of the verses quoted below:
Matthew 12:31
Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
Matthew 12:32
And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.
Mark 3:29
But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation.
Clearly, blaspeming against the Holy Spirit is a very serious offense for which there is no forgiveness. In addition, you have to know what it is to blaspheme against the Holy Spirit to be held accountable for this infraction. So..... what is it? What does it mean to blaspheme against the Holy Spirit?
Let's break it down. Let's start with a simple question:
1) What is the Holy Spirit? In simple terms, it is Gods spirit that He gives away, gives to angels and to mankind.
2) If we have the gift of the Holy Spirit, how can we honor it? By loving God, by loving and being charitable to one another, by teaching about and talking about God.
3) How does one blaspheme against the Holy Spirit? By using Gods holy name for their own gain, by manipulating others in such a way that it hurts or damages their walk with God, by using lies and deception to turn others away from God. Blatant hypocrisy. Being a good Christian for show but doing unspeakable things that injure others physically, emotionally or spiritually (living a double life).
I'm going to keep this short and sweet and wait for feedback from others who have given this topic heavy consideration.

I believe God's spirit is totally active in our lives.
I found something new today that made God's spirit in me more real than it was yesterday...
talk about learning something new everyday..this was a whopper..
It actively blesses and punishes us depending on what we say, what we do, how we think...in every aspect of our lives.
If we do good, we are blessed with peace of mind, gentleness, i can't think of the words Luv..just calmness.
But if we do bad, think bad, talk bad..we don't get to enjoy peace of mind or calmness until we repent of that badness or have asked to be forgiven of it. It will "burn us up", until we put away whatever bad it was we was doing.
It's more than just our conscience..it's God's spirit convicting or rewarding our minds and hearts of everything.
Grieve not the Holy Spirit....
how do we grieve God's spirit?
what happens when we grieve God?..
we are sealed with the holy spirit until the day of redemption...
sealed..like closed up with God's spirit inside us.
this is deep luv..
i'm just seeing new things for the first time..again..
need to unramble my thoughts..
hugs

How right you are on this. On occasion, I have gotten caught up in talking about someone. It's not always pretty, it's often not 'charitable.' I think I got this trait from my family as they do this quite a bit. I have had to consciously work on eliminating this from my life. Moving 500+ miles from my family helped some but it happens at work too. Mostly I ignore it. When I do allow myself to become part of the mud-slinging, I really do feel terrible about it. I feel guilty. I have a hard time facing someone who I have talked about especially if I've embellished or added name-calling to the mix. It's just not worth it. I am working it out and will continue to do so. We can't allow ourselves to get involved in this type of activity because it leads us in to the whole 'judging others' thing and like you said, it burns us up inside. It singes our spirit.
Some day soon, we should open up a separate discussion on gossip.

Here is something cool:
I was reading a thread TSS had started about how people misuse/misconstrue 1 Cor 3 and I came upon the following verses:
1 Cor 3:
13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.
14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.
How fitting to this topic are those verses?
....The spirit of God dwelleth in you.
....ye are the temple of God
....If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy.
I don't know why but these verses just jumped out at me and I would love feedback on this.
Thanks,
Luv |

and what are the works luv?
gossiping, backbiting, slanderers, you know that list in revelations? the ones who don't get to enter into the kingdom?
What's that kingdom?? Peace? Love?
And now..right now..the holy spirit is the judge..it is the lake of fire that is in us now, convicting us, changing us, purifying us..casting out those dead works, those evil demons, that rebellious spirit...burning it up as we go along..
If we can just recognize it...and if we stop doing what ever it is then it will be purged..flame broiled even..
those things will perish in the flame of the Holy Spirit..God's Word in us..
When God is angry..or when his Spirit is angry..God blasts fire at us out of his nostrils..
man..I was just doing a study on this..right below this one..
But when God is not angry or his spirit is at peace in us, not grieved..it's as if we are walking beside still waters...calm and at peace..
Yea though i walk through the valley of death...
this death..this valley..this place where death is being turned into life..
the shadow isn't growing darker it's growing lighter!!
I shall fear no evil..
because we know that God is working in us..purging us..washing us..and that it is for our good that we have to walk here..
thy rod....correction...and thy staff... instruction..
they comfort me..
because they lead us in the right direction if we stray!
but then their are good works..the fruits of our labour..
goodness, kindness, charity, hope, faith...
these are the works that remain...
against such there is no law..no condemnation, no rebuke...because they are God's works...
the more excited I get..the more spaces in between the lines...
I just noticed that..LOL.. |

| Any sin...not asked forgiveness for, will result in the UnPardonable sin.
How many in todays Christian world realize the not observing the Lord's day, the 7th day sabbath, is a sin ?
How many people realize that...."Thou shalt not Covet", is another sin, that very few people even realize they are doing ? |
