So, let's make it a given for this that homosexual behavior is a sin. That is, acting out on the desire to take part in a same sex relationship or sexual act.
Okay, so we have this sin. Sin is bad. Why is this sin so much more deserving of condemnation than others? Why does this sin merit excommunication from fellowship moreso than others?
Why does this sin get it's own subforum instead of, say, people who sometimes lie or those who have difficulty controlling anger or hatred? I see we have a 10 commandments section, but people here talking about gays are pulling from far outside of those confines.

I'll get to this at the end of this post.

Because this particular "sin" makes people uncomfortable. People are raised thinking it's "wrong" when it's entirely natural, and this enculturation affects them throughout their lives.

In regards to the first bit, the biggest problem is that it's not a given. The Bible doesn't actually condemn homosexual relationships or sexual activity within homosexual relationships.

For a meaningful approach to why it gets it's own subforum on a christian site where people predominantly consider it a sin, I think it's worth my while to make it a given for this conversation. I'm happy to jump into conversations elsewhere where it is not.

Many sins make people uncomfortable, some are lifestyle choices. It would seem to me that this one is less understood, both in how it is carried out and it's motivations. The information for both may both be readily available. If they are, there may be some obstacle between that information and the mainstream christian community. Is that a good thing? Would it change anything?

All that is tertiary to me though. My interest is the rating of sin in general for the sake of this conversation. I'm under the impression that we aren't supposed to do that. Yet we do, and in extremely predictable ways. This one tends to stay on top.

Well, had this forum been around many years ago, interracial relationships might have been viewed in the same manner. I've seen people try to use the Bible to say interractial relationships were sinful too, but I've shown these people the error of their ways.

However, it is hard to escape that same sex relations is addressed in the Bible, and never in a positive manner. The problem is, people use the Bible to condemn gay people but they never consider that all people are condemned without Christ. So to tell a person they are "going to hell" for being a homosexual is focusing on just one aspect of their life, and not the true one. "All have sinned", so we all need Christ. Whether you are straight, never said a curse word, never stold, never lied, etc. you still need the same Christ the homosexual needs.

So we need to focus less on the sin and more on the sinner. None of this matters until they come to Christ because no single sin will keep them from the kingdom of God but the rejection of the Son.

What should we be doing in this forum then? And should we be looking toward a "rejecting the son" forum? Or do you consider an existing one to serve as that?

Hi Abenadar,

Good questions.

People will focus on anything they hate rather than focus on the the real problem: the sin of hatred for the thing.

So the focus on gaydom is just one of those focuses.

Plus, it is that sin of hatred that makes homo- or hetero- sex sinful---not the act itself.

To the pure of heart, all things are pure except hatred for the impure.

in pure Love for the just and unjust,

Close!
The key forum wd be:

Should we accept The sin of hatred for those we reject

or

should we be rejecting the sin of Hatred while accepting Love for those we accept and reject?

In Love for who or what is wanted and unwanted,
